Hi, what are the charges for using cashpoints in icmeler? Also what rate do they give you?

Its better than 2.5 in uk at moment (2.5536 with post office today). Even more with marks and spencers if you have a m and s card. Must admit I couldnt resist the p. o. rate and "filled my boots". Its all a bit of a fun gamble.

im with lloyds. if i use my card the exchange rate is usually slightly lower than post office etc and there is a charge. heres what the web site says:

Cash withdrawals and purchases. The amount is converted to sterling on the day it is processed
by Visa using the exchange rate set by Visa plus a 2.99% foreign
exchange fee
Cash withdrawals are also subject to: Debit cards: 1.5% of the amount with a minimum transaction charge
of £2.00 and a maximum charge for each transaction of £4.50.
Cashpoint® cards: 1.5% of the amount with a minimum transaction
charge of £1.50. Please note: there is no maximum transaction fee

basically the equasion is: card (+1.5% x N) = 8 EFES. in english fricken expensive!!

What Post Office are you folks using to get 2.55 etc.? My local post office is stuck at 2.44 and has been for the past week. Yes, I have asked and have been told that's the rate they have.

i always used nationwide but now they charge sign times most banks now charge due to economic times they all think people go abroad are rich so this year taking cash only

We always used the Nationwide and enjoyed the free service. This June however we paid £1 for each transaction, plus 2% on withdrawals. We saved £7 by going every second day, but it was still £35 in charges over the fortnight.

Its definitely cash or Travellers Cheques for the October holiday, I can do more with £35 than give it to a bank!

The Post Office website rate is for ordering ONLINE ONLY. Tis a different rate if you walk into a post office and ask for currency "on the spot"

reesy 1959 I have always used a nationwide card abroad so it is disappointing that the free withdrawal sevice no longer applies. however is it not the case that you would get the full interbank rate minus nationwides charge as opposed to getting four or five points less by changing cash in resort? your £35 charges would be much reduced taking this into account without the worry of taking and carrying largish amounts of sterling. If someone could clarify, I would be obliged as I am travelling to Icmeler next week (29th July).

I will now only use a bank card as an emergency, due to charges. We will be taking Sterling travelers cheques, ( my bank account does not charge commission), approx £50/£100 Lira and some Sterling for barter bargains. The travelers cheques will be cashed at the supermarket or bar that has the best rate, these do not charge commission and you get the same rate as sterling, they are also Insured against theft. The difference between the Interbank rate and the resort rate is Not £35 over 2 weeks. So all round i am on a saving. I only take enough sterling cash that I can afford to loose, should fall victim of theft.
Just remember when changing Cheques or cash Do Not Use exchange offices ...........................They Charge

Pedro 26, usually the Nationwide does give the internernational bank rate, and its always about 0.5 higher than you get in resort, but looking at my statement for this year, we got the following rates on my 7 withdrawals. 2.546, 2.545, 2.578, 2.586, 2.590, 2.589, 2.587. The rates in the resort being offered at the supermarkets which my Sister used were varying from 2.56 - 2.58. Therefore not really much of a difference.

I will take Travellers Cheques for the bulk of my money in October, plus a few hundred in sterling and buy a couple of nice meals out with extra efes for the saved £35

We use the Caxton fx Global Card - just load it up online before you go (you can also load it using your mobile) and if you withdraw sterling there is no charge. . There will be a topic already on this and you should be able to find it if you do a search. My lunch hour's nearly up and the internet on this computer is really slow otherwise I would have supplied the link. Definitely worth thinking about if you don't want to take cash and your bank has started charging for withdrawals abroad.

While Halifax don't charge a fee to use their Clarity card, some cash machines do charge a fee for withdrawals - just check before you use a particular machine whether it is free or not. A friend of mine got caught out this way (although not in Turkey).

Think it just depends which bank's machines you use, and what agreement they have with the Halifax over charging.
