cancelled

Postby jeffg » 11 Jul 2011 09:08

We are supposed to be in Icmeler at the moment ,but on saturday as we were packing the car for the airport i felt unwell ,on reaching my daughters she immediately said you cant travel like that and i was promptly taken to A&E where i stayed for over 5 hrs and was diagnosed with a sinus and chest virul infection and a temperature of 39.1. I have been put on a course of antibiotics and told i cant drive until infections has cleared,I was wondering if anyone has any experience of claiming on travel insurance under similar circumstances as a visit later in the year rests on getting some of the cost back. Sorry for going on a bit . Jeff

Think your insurance company might ask for a letter or something from your doctor to confirm that you weren't fit to fly.

Hi Jeff We had a similar experience about three years ago when we had to cancell at the last minute. We also had cases packed and were waiting for minibus to come and take us to the airport. Check your holiday insurance and follow there instructions. Basically all we had to do was go and see our GP tell him what information the insurance company required, reason why we could not fly basically and send to info off. We got a cheque within a couple of weeks, but less the deposit i think.
Go for it and i am sure you will get to Icmeler later in the year

Hi Jeff, I hope your feeling better soon!

I wuld call your insurance company and make a claim, they will either ask you to get all the relevant documentation they need or write to your GP direct. It shouldn't be a problem unless its a pre-exisiting condition

Jeff i feel for you.In 2009 i had an accident and was 50/50 if i could travel or not.I knew if i could not go i would be letting 6 other people down.Anyway luck was with me and i was able to go but i needed a doctors note to travel.
In your case i am sure you will need a doctors letter (which you may have to pay for).
The insurers may say the others were fit to travel or come up with various reasons why they can not pay for certain things.
Now you are probably feeling low still but when you speak to them,be possitive and you control the conversation and if you are not happy with what you are hearing speak to someone higher up and keep fighting your corner.
Hopefully it wont come to this and they may be ok but be prepared.
Good luck mate.

Aw how truly awful for you Jeff - hope you're soon on the mend and able to get away later in the year.

If you have any problems with your insurance, or just need more advice on how to deal with it, you may find it useful to check out the Complaints bit of another forum called HolidayTruth [Admin, hope it's OK to mention that site?]

Good luck and let us know how you get on
