Not a normal holiday

Postby south coast hero » 13 Jun 2011 20:03

I am an icmeler "veteran" of about 7/8 holidays and every time we have new friends joining us i have to explain to them that this will be like no other holiday they have been on.Where else in any other holiday destination would you do as we have done over the years.
Been on the back of a scooter (frightened to death)to deliver medicine to my sick barber friend
Fixed the break dancers car
Taught the cleaners son how to swim
Sorted out plumbing problems at the hotel

But what goes around comes around _ we have

Been sent jewelry to England without paying for it until it was delivered
Had loads of meals etc and not paid until we changed our currency a day later
Been offered a loan by a restrurant owner who thought we had run out of money
Had birthday cakes/presents given to us
Etc etc
So to all you 1st timers-give it a week or so before you make your mind up about this fantastic place and remember respect works both ways.

Very true. I could not go anywhere else in Turkey. Even if it was for free.

Could any of you?

Mr Mischief, your right. I certainly would now go nowhere else even if it was free. I mean, don't get me wrong, there are other places in the world to visit but I cannot stay away for any one year. This year for instance, I've booked for July, I went to Zante in May and all I could think about was icmeler. Now I can't wait to get there. I have managed to wangle 5 days in August so hoping to get another little cheap deal for that one, going it alone so shouldn't be a bother.
Butm you are all right, you only need to put yourself out a little bit and you soon get it back.

If I was offered somewhere else for free I would take them up on the offer, I would still have the money to get to Icmeler later in the year if not before the freebee

Great post, we go to Icmeler every year for the past 5, and will always go at least once a year, been to other places during the year but would give them a miss but not Icmeler, and again its the people who make it so special, they really go out of their way to ensure you have a great holiday(well 95% of them do) theres alway one or two miseries, but on the whole you wont find friendlier people anywhere.Rog.

Not just Icmeler.....We were in Marmaris (not my favourite resort) some 6 years ago and I was looking for a wedding ring. (for me.....didn't have one when we got married) Finally found the one I wanted but didn't have the money on me at the time to buy it. The jewellers was just about to close so we said we would call back the following day to buy the ring. The jeweller INSISTED that i take the ring and call back in the morning to pay. He took no details off us...no names, no apartment details, Nothing.
We returned with the payment as promised and have been back to see him every time we are in Turkey, whether making a purchase or not. A chat, some tea and a "see you next time".....Great People.

We have been to loads of different countries for holidays but there is definitely only one Turkey and especially only one Icmeler.Goa in India comes a close second but it is a totally different type of holiday.
Last time we arrived into apartments, late flight from Newcastle, it was probably 1.30 am. Mandy had gone to the room to sort cases out and i was thirsty and hungry. There is a small supermarket opposite the apartments so me and George wandered across to get some pop and water a few nibbles. Had a bit of crack with owner who did not want paying there and then and said to come back when we got sorted out.
I just hope it never changes, and folk dont take advantage. We have been coming to Icmeler for 24 years now and will be coming for many more.

agree with all your comments. Used to work in travel before I had my kids and travelled to most tourist places around Europe and always had a good time. Never went to Turkey as I didn't fancy it and now I know I had totally the wrong impression. Went 2 years ago with a friend who has been going to Icmeler for 14 years and couldn't believe what I had been missing. She persuaded me to try somewhere else in May as she had been there so many times and fancied a change so we went to Northern Cyprus as it still had the turkish connection so we thought would be ok but it was the biggest mistake ever!! I could list a milllion things wrong with it but the main thing was the people - I have never had the same hospitality and warmth ever as I have had In Icmeler and I will never go anywhere else again! Hoping to go back in July but nothing booked yet.

ive been to icmeler 15 times in the past 6 years so i think you could say im well and truly hooked :D ive been with groups of friends , with my mother and with my partner , and it has a special charm that appeals to all, I was in icmeler in may with a group of 30 pensioners and the way the turkish people looked after us was amazing, they couldnt do enough to help, some of the ladys had difficulty walking around in the heat ,but restaurants and shop owners brought them chairs to sit on for a few minuets while they caught their breath , even if we wernt eating in their resaurants or buying anything fro their store. All the young turkish waiters and bar staff showed the elderly ladys so much respect it was lovely to see. The ladys in the group felt safe walking around in the evenings something they would think twice about at home. I will be back again with my partner at the end of august for a rest this time lol and no doubt i will be back again next year :D
