Booking late flights

Postby bikerjambo » 29 May 2011 15:26

Anyone ever done this for going to Turkey?
Reason I'm asking is I've been keeping tabs on flights from Glasgow to Dalaman leaving tomorrow for 7 days. Last week for the 3 of us they were coming in at about the £500 mark but if we wanted to book today it would cost £277.33 plus £25 per case (we reckon we could get by with 1 case for a week). I realise its down to whether or not theres empty seats on any given flight but does anyone have any experience of doing this cos it could save us a fortune for going in Sept. if we sit on our hands and chance leaving it til the last minute!

JT, realise you do flights so just bin this if I'm breaking any rules by asking.

As you say the risk is if there are any empty seats, In my opionion September is far more popular that the end of May.

i was working out in the caribbean there for 2months there and was keeping eye on flights for july from glasgow or prestwick but were hitting over £300 each, when i came home they were down to £250 each and was just gona book them so i knew we were going, however i kept checking then the next day they were down to £150 from prestwick, being the closest to us is even handier now, glad i waited.

So try PIK , it's only 30mins doon the coast.

We are going in August this year but in 2012 my eldest daughter wants her mate to come but the place we go normally we can't do it because we would be under occupancy as there would only be 5 of us in 2 apartments that sleep 8 in total. Question is I have always done package holidays and never done it seperate, I was looking the other day at flights for 2012 for the 5 of us but the prices were massive. Am I doing something wrong? Some flights were anybody over the age of 2 was classed as an adult. The kids in 2012 will be on return 15 16 and 16.

He who hesitates is lost as I have found to my cost. The airlines reduce flight prices over some weekends to give the sales a push and you can find flights for GLA at £250 if you are lucky. Go back to the web site on a weekday and you will find that they could be close to £400. Strike while the iron is hot and grab the lowest price.

£250 is quite crap to be honest and what we're trying to avoid ie. 3 x £250=£750 when leaving it late turns into £277.

I booked MAN-DLM in March to go on 3/6/11 for £174 with TC (whose prices fluctuate daily) - they were recently £134 return but I have seen them as high as £190. You've just got to book and keep your fingers crossed!

Are you telling me or the first poster the price of flights with Monarch? I couldn't book with Monarch, needed to arrive back in the UK early morning on 10/6/11. I just got the price at £164.50 with no meal but with baggage if you meant MAN-DLM!

Could you check and post your flight price the day before you leave just to see if my reckoning is right?

Sounds like I got the same sort of deal as Kneale - Manc to Dalaman 3/6 landing at around 01.30 returning early hours of 11/6 for £165 return & including 20 kg hold luggage with Monarch. Booked it on 16/5/11

Take care on checking flight prices though - we were told by a TA that keeping on checking the prices can actually cause them to go up cos they think there's lots of interest??

Hope you manage to get the deal you want 8)

Noticed that with hotels on some sites, they take a jump when you keep looking but if you leave it a few days they come back down again.
Incidently, been looking for flights in June and Onar came up at £91 for 7 nights with luggage, don't have the hols on the dates tho, bummer!

if you book your hotel with ICR BJ, at least there's none of the price changing frustration! And if you're after cheap flights booked at the last minute, you could always book accom with ICT and get an AOA to Dalaman airport from one of those bucket sites then when you land, tell the rep you don't want accom

Looks like it's nice and sunny, at least for the next 7 days, according to the Weather Pro app on my iPhone. So glad I didn't go last Friday! I'm not going to pack till Friday morning, I love doing stuff in a panic, typical man
