Mary as you said you get free insurance with your bank, go down that route it will probably be cheaper, I get the same with RBS and it cost me a extra £103 for the years insurance with them. I tried about 40 companys last year and the quotes I was getting for the blocked artery in my leg ranged from £240 - £360.

JT Gosure looks like it does not do pre existing medical conditions from their FAQ

“The key questions for you to consider:

1.Are you traveling against the advice of a medical practitioner or traveling for the purpose to obtain medical treatment?
2.Have you been diagnosed as having a terminal illness?
3.Are you aware of any reason why the trip could be cancelled/curtailed?
4. Do you have a medical condition that you have suffered from, received medication, advice or medical treatment in the last 12 months?

If you answered yes to any of these points, then you may not be covered for cancellation, curtailment or emergency medical treatment.
You can call All Clear Travel Insurance on 0870 0607951, for an alternative quote if you require insurance cover for your pre-existing medical condition.”

All clear is on the money supermarket list for pre existing medical conditions
You do get the same quotes going direct as well.

Thanks everyone, tried more of your suggestions, and still no joy. They will cover me, but not for the heart condition (which was in 2002) but isn't that the reason why you need to ensure you have cover in the first place

Tried the bank too Davie, to swap account, no joy with them either, they wont cover for pre-existing medical conditions.

Off to try a few more and if no joy, it will be the £170+ one I will take out. This is doing my head in now.......I need an efes

My husband and I use Liverpool Vicoria our renewal last October was £153.45 for the year, I have no medical conditions my husband has Parkinsons, diabetes, blood pressure, COPD all which we declare, both of us are in our 70s

Our friends use them as well and he had a heart attack about 4 years ago, and found them very competative he is also 70. .

Thanks Doreen, but I got your suggestion too late. Just managed to book up now. Eventually I settled for one of the Insurances that were recommended through the British Heart Foundation. Its through the website insurance choice, and its covered by a company called Mapfre. Total cost was £178.60 for the annual insurance.

Now I can stop stressing and look forward to the holiday - 18 sleeps!

Last year I was waiting for gallbladder surgery and the cheapest I could get was £365 for 14 days for the two of us (they would not entertain an annual policy) have noticed they are getting very keen on Turkey as a destination along with Spain and of course USA, some now have Europe and then Europe, Spain and Turkey listed as separate places due to medical costs in Spain and Turkey.
Getmy was cheapest for me last year.

I have not had any changes in my medical conditions since 2004, and last year I paid £89 for my annual travel insurance. I had a heart attack in 2002. No changes since then, but all the Insurances have risen dramatically this year, and my original Insurance jumped from £89 - just over £200.

Hi I got my husbands with flexicover who are also citybond you buy a normal policy then they will ask you if you need to do a medical screening and you pay it altogether online it was only £28 for us both and £59 for my husbands extra screening that covers his heart condition which was 5 years ago with no change in meds but your travelling partner ie myself must be insured with them also hope this helps have been using them for a few years now

I'm not asking you to publish your age but in the past year did you reach a birthday ending with a zero or a five, My father-in-law was a named driver on our car insurance and when he hit 65 our insurance rocketed so we removed him and saved £150+, I presume similar increases happen with holiday insurance.

Have you tried orbis insurance. Their website is www.orbisinsurance.co.uk and they specialise in insurance for people with existing health conditions. Cost me £94.00 for husband and me. The took over travibility last year.

I bank with Lloyds and called them today, to change my account which would give me the free cover, then I could do the screening to cover the condition, but they wouldnt cover a pre existing medical condition, even if I upgraded to the gold account, they still wouldnt cover my heart problem.
