We don't really drink a lot of wine in Turkey because it's quite expensive, but we have tried some - Villa Doluca and Kavaklidere were both quite nice.

Our favourite is Villa Doluca Beyaz. A couple of years ago it was on offer in Tansas and so we bought an extra few bottles to bring home with us. That was the first year that they charged us for luggage being overweight at
Dalaman so our wine ended up by being quite expensive

My question is why wine is so expensive in Turkey - especially when its local wine.
We drink Cankaya - it was considerably more expensive in
Icmeler than in our local Turkish restaurant!!!!! ??????

Last year we 'discovered ' a very nice red wine at Tandoori Sizzler and also at Lemon Tree. Reasonably priced for Turkey as a lot have already pointed out. Also available in a couple of the supermarkets for 12 lira (the one passed Florida away from
ICR office).Only 11 weeks to go and sample some more.

Because the Turkish Government have placed an extremely high duty tax on wine, I believe currently approximatelt 50% of the price for a bottle of wine is tax.

Over the years I have tried a few different white wines and decided that overall I prefer Kavak. The thing that I find difficult is that it's rarely cold enough and very few places have ice making machines. Wine tends to be served in a wine bucket full of cold water with a few ice cubes floating around. Not surprising if the ice has to be bought by the bag but not good enough to keep the wine chilled.
How about it Tandori Sizzler - do you have an ice making machine?
I have never been brave enough to try the red but maybe this year.............
