Facebook Check Ins

Hi,

I'm currently sitting having an Efes in the beautiful Içmeler and as most places have free Wifi I decide to use Facebook and check in (purely to make my friends jealous). I was surprised to see that there were no check in places apart from Içmeler and Marmaris. I have taken the liberty to start of a hopeful trend to make it easy for people who want to check in on Facebook in future. So far I have added:
Aqua hotel
Havana
IDA Lounge

I will be adding more as I get the free wifi but hopefully this will be useful to other people who love Içmeler as I do (and want to make there friends jealous haha).

Yes wifi won't use your mobile data so will be free. Where ever you pick it up in the bars (Havana etc) just ask a member of staff for the passcode and they won't have a problem going you it.

I would be interested in using my phone this year too, would it be wise to contact Vodafone to have internet stopped incase drunken mistakes are made and to save running up a huge bill?

Word of warning - if you have an iPhone or similar, be aware that data roaming ia automatically on all the time unless you go into your settings and change them manually.That means your phone is constantly updatng things like Facebook, etc, as we found out to our cost when we got back from Icmeler last October to a massive phone bill for my daughter's iPhone, although she hadn't been using it to make calls or texts. I kicked up a fuss and they did reduce the bill, but it's something to be aware of if you have that kind of phone.

Thats what worries me Blondie, I have an HTC desire, similar to Iphone, so I think I will give them a call just to double check on things. Thanks for the warning.

I spoke to vodafone with regards to using the phone while in turkey, and they do a deal where you can add a data package that allows you to go on facebook etc . I believe it was £15 a month, but you can cancel it when you get back and you only get charged for the 2 weeks or how ever long your away for. Well worth it if you want to have a nosey on fb/brag about drinking an efes while in a non wifi area.

I've got the HTC Desire phone if you go to settings, wireless & networks, scroll down to the second mobile networks and you can turn data roaming off from there. I used my phone last year in Icmeler and had no problems.

To connect to WIFI go to settings, wireless & networks, wifi settings, turn on wifi and it will search for connections. So if your in Zaza's it will show up as Havanna and then you just select it and enter the password and it will remember it for next time.

Are you sure that's not just Europe? Vodafone Data Traveller is only for Europe, according to their website here: http://www.vodafone.co.uk/personal/price-plans/managing-my-costs/travelling-abroad/using-the-internet-abroad/index.htm Even if it is for Turkey you don't get very much of an allowance and it is very expensive if you go over. I wouldn't use the internet on your phone AT ALL while you're in Turkey. Just connect to the Wifi of the hotel you're staying in or bars/restaurants you visit.

In there you can knock data roaming off. As Eatock has said you can then connect wirelessly to the many bars in Içmeler without the fear of getting a hefty bill on your return home.

I'm not talking about Vodafone passport, that's for voice/text, I'm talking about Vodafone Data Traveller. According to their website they don't offer a bolt on for outside of Europe, I think you've been given incorrect information from the person you spoke to.

I would also double check that Chris. A few years ago when I was on vodafone I got told I would get my passport allowance in turkey. I came home to a £150 bill. Tread carefully with them
