Are there any do's & dont's in Icmeler / Turkey in general?

Postby Chris221273 » 09 May 2011 11:24

Hey all,
Was just wondering, are there any laws or religious beliefs etc etc that us newbies should know before coming to Icmeler?
We don't want to come and upset the locals etc etc by doing things that whilst normal to us, might offend others or fall foul of the law!

Dont think there are any Chris. Visitors can visit mosques with prior arrangement but must be covered up.no bikinis or bare bodies. I think women have to keep their hair covered as well. Just go and enjoy yourselves.

Don't be too worried about Turkey being a Muslim country. Just be polite and friendly as you would anywhere and you will get on fine. It is after all a modern resort like many in Europe so they are used to tourists from all over. Try to learn a few words of Turkish. This goes down well.

just be respectful if you go into the village
the turks in the tourists areas are used to the tourists and are normally all laid back
so you shouldnt have much to worry about
if you do decide to go to a mosque or somewhere religious women need to cover their head and shouldnt wear too revealing clothes

I would stick to a t-shirt on the dolmus (minibus) rather than a bikini top - just for respect.

Also - find out what to do about the toilet "wheel" (posted elsewhere on here) and toilet paper in bins - there's a good reason for it!

Have a great time!

The toilet system sounds the same as Greece, due to narrow drainage/sewer pipes! It becomes second nature putting loo roll in the bin :)

I am all for everyone making an honest living during the season but the one thing you should not be fooled into buying is the 'genuine' perfume! We were told this by a travel rep.

Yep agreed.....10% perfume.......90% water....leave well alone!
The testers they have in most countries are the real thing, what you get in the sealed box.......see above!
As the saying goes...."you get what you pay for"!!!!!
