Cash Passports

04 May 2011 18:50

Hi All

Don't quite know what these are all about but my son has been advised by TC that they are the best way to take cash abroad this year to Turkey :?

Any ideas / comments :?:

If they are advising that then they must be making a sheckle or two from it

Take your card or carry cash.

Any bank you walk into and give in sterling will give you the bank rate.

Why people use change offices or sweetshops I don;t know when my bank does it free

Well from what I have read on reviews of these cash passports they don't sound that great.
Obviously u load it in the UK with money, so you might lose out on a better rate in resort.
Some cash passports I have read about also charge when you withdraw from the atm so again your Exchange rate in essence drops again.
I asked the same question on another forum before I found this amazing forum, and the general consensus was to either get a nationwide flexi card account, bring cash, or, and my chosen method, is travellers cheques.
They are insured and replaced within 24 hours.
Hope this is of help and no doubt someone with experience of using these will be along soon :-)

I've looked into the cash passport and decided against it as it was just another way for them to make money out of you like the pre load debit cards. Got a Santander Zero current account instead and thats free to withdraw cash abroad

Was there a rumour last year that travellers cheques were being withdrawn? Can anyone confirm if they are or not, I prefer to use them and changed them at Best Supermarket opposite Romance Bar last year. The staff there were very pleasant and we got a good exchange rate. You only need to take your passport the first time and they give you a card to take in the next time. 14 more weeks to go :D :D

Hi, I used a cash passport card in icmeler last year and would never do it again. i was charged in the uk to load the card and then charged again when using the card. i got a better rate using my own bank card to draw money from the atm.
