Hi
There are several launderettes in Icmeler, but the one we use is down the side of ICR, to the canal and then turn left just before you reach it, and it's one of the little shops on th left hand side along that strip. The lady there is lovely...doesn't speak English, but she calls for her friend a couple of doors down to translate.
We have used our UK phone which is Vodafone in Icmeler, but it is so expensive. Couldn't help you on the Turkish sim card, but I am sure there will be someone able to help you.

You can use a UK phone, but be warned that it can work out very expensive indeed - whether you're making calls or sending and receiving texts. The cheapest way to call back home is to buy a phone card which you use in the public phone boxes. They only cost a few lira and you get loads of time on them.
As for launderettes, there are quite a few scattered all over the resort, so wherever you're staying, I'm sure you won't be far from one.

the laundrette mentioned is very good which is next to jimmys okimo bar.i think it was 20tl per load of washing which was about 9 pound last year.this includes ironing.secondly by a card as i am on vodafone and texts cost 37p each and it is £1.69 a minute so suggest you lock ur phone in the safe and use it in an emergency

Hi lostsoul. We took our laundry to the launderette 2 days before we left to come home, and we got it back the next day. Very quick and very reasonable...as watto mentioned, 20 lira. Saves you doing loads of washing when you get home :)

there are lots of little laundrettes located around icmeler which will do your washing and ironing if you wish almost next day for most of them
all of the turkish waiters use them for their clothes and uniforms
yes you can still use your english phone in turkey
people are only suggesting buying turkish sim cards because its cheaper but it does get a little complicated :)
hope this helps

I didn't mean buying a Turkish sim card, Katie - I meant the cards which you can buy and use in the actual phone boxes. We found they were by far the cheapest way to call the UK. You get loads of time for your money.

O2 txt messages are 49pence to send, and if you answer your mobile, not only does the person calling pay, you also pay for that privelege, approx £1.50! hence I always forwarn everyone that I will not be answering my phone whilst on holiday. The best thing for phoning home are the pre paid cards for the local phones :)

Another word of warning, if you have an iPhone or similar - be aware that iPhones have their data roaming permanently switched on, unless you go into your settings and switch it off. When it's on, it means the phone is constantly updating things like Facebook, which my daughter discovered to her cost when we returned from Icmeler last October to be greeted by a huge bill! She was adamant she hadn't been making calls or texting, and it was only on complaining to Orange that we discovered it was the data roaming. I kicked up a fuss and they did eventually reduce the bill - but be warned!

Thanks for the replys everyone they've been most helpful as always.
I was more interested in the launderette so as to save my lovely gf bring half her wardrobe with her :-)
And great bit of advice blondie, will bear that in mind as might be upgrading my android phone to an iPhone before I fly out :-)

Also don't forget to turn your voicemail off on your mobile if someone does call you as soon as it connects to voicemail it will also charge you the min of one minute.

I always send a couple of texts from my mobile and then use the phone cards to call home, used the launderettes for the first time ever last year. The apartments we stayed in arranged it for us, we just took them to one of the staff in the afternoon and they were back the next day. I must say they quality of the ironing is far better than I can do myself ha ha

Hi 221273
Android phones do the same as iphones regarding data roaming, but an idea for you, quite a lot of bars have wifi you can use, (just buy a couple of drinks for the password) then you can check your`e mails or Skype people at set times, thus no cost.
Just leave roaming off.

Not sure about other networks, but if you're on o2 send multimedia message (MMS) instead of a text - MMS 25p, normal txt 49p!!! You get more characters on a MMS so can therefore say more and even add a photo (all for 25p)... discovered this a few years ago and I'm sure I'll be doing the same when I go in 3 weeks time.

Call wise - buy a phone card and use public call box - much cheaper, or use email - a lot of restaurants have a computer you can use (Cupids for one!)

Laundrettes - I always use the one next to Jimmys (and I don't know what fabric conditioner they use but the smell is divine!) they will also take odd items (as do most around Icmeler), which is great if you're not wanting a load done, a price list is usually up somewhere - per skirt, per beach towel etc... certainly cuts down on packing!
