I'm shocked to hear that some coach journeys took 5 hours, that's double the time that we used to take and that was bad enough. A few years ago there was talk of building an airport in Marmaris, haven't heard mention of this in the last couple of years though. This would be great as far as the time taken to travel to Icmeler from Dalaman, but I suppose it would damage the peace with planes flying overhead. Did think that the mountains would cause a problem, perhaps it was a non-starter.

If my transfer was 5 hours think I would have got off 2 hours before and got a taxi. Roads from Dalaman to Marmaris have improved quite a lot in the last couple of years, with dual carriageways now on a lot of the road which has speeded all journeys up a lot.
Last year instead of paying for private transfer, bought extra leg room seats on the plane 9 hours of comfort for £20 more than the private transfer would have cost the two of us.

never heard about this dragon but if it is anything like the situation in antalya and alanya then dalaman will hold the rights for the people going to icmeler and marmaris and a new airport will not be allowed to be built
gazipasa airport has been built about 45km east of alanya and was meant to ease the congestion and transfer time
but antalya airport would not give up the right and kept it so the airport could not offer this service until the right is passed over
hope this helps

I normally book my own transfers and any company I have used so far the transfer takes around 2 hours icluding a comfort stop. Cost for this is around £30 for the 2 of us. Transfers have always been in a small minibus with a few drop offs, and their are plenty of companies offering this service.

As a private transfer cost around £100 I dont think that the extra £70 or so to save perhaps 30 minutes each way is worth it. I would rather spend that £70 in the resort. Still each to their own

Roads are much better now from Dalaman and they are blasting the mountain as you drop down into marmaris to make that road wider.

I travelled behind a coach last Friday from Dalaman to marmaris and clocked it doing 120 kmph for a long stretch with the bus bouncing and swaying side to side.

I gave up on a downward hill and passed it only to see it was full of tourists.

That was not a good way to treat new people to Turkey and no doubt they will all be reporting to someone

hope somneone reports them
not a good impression for newcomers to the country
the road approaching marmaris is scary when your climbing and going downhill too
some of the buses take the sharp bends far too quickly
hope they can make the road as wide as possible
