Is this a wind up or spam?

Postby swwogglehound » 11 Apr 2011 10:33

I received the following email yesterday which does not soundd very user forum friendly, can someone confirm if it for real?
The following is an e-mail sent to you by an administrator of "Icmeler
Online - Turkey Holiday Forum". If this message is spam, contains abusive
or other comments you find offensive please contact the webmaster of the
board at the following address:

[email protected]

Include this full e-mail (particularly the headers).

Message sent to you follows:
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Hi everyone.
As our members have seen, we recently locked down the photo gallery, well
ok I did ( col ) for several reasons but mainly to protect your piccies you
are posting for us, this has resulted in us seeing a mass influx of members
of late ( over 600 ) so a VERY BIG WELCOME to all the newbies.
That brings me to the point of this short but sweet mail out. New members,
MUST make postings within either, 2 weeks from today or 2 weeks from there
joining point to ensure there membership stays valid on ICR. Non posting
members will be deleted and not allowed to rejoin. Not me being fussy, it's
being done for a reason.
So guys and gals, might send you another one with some ICR offers on
tomorrow, but in the mean time go, get posting he he
Quick thanks to Barnie for there continued effort over the winter at
keeping us updated, call in and see them in The Robin Hood Bar to say hi to
them.
Many Thanks
Col, John, Rami, Michelle, Sharon, Irem and Elaine ( I think )
Not a wind-up or spam - email was sent out to all forum members and seems pretty self-explanatory to me. It really is a very welcoming and friendly forum, with someone always around sooner or later to answer any questions anyone may have.
Sounds reasonable to me as well, There are currently 8.5 pages of users in the members list who have never posted.
Removing accounts make administration a lot easier and if it was me I would take it further and remove accounts if they have been inactive say for two years with no posts.
I agree with the comments that it is not too much to expect that when you join a forum you are asked to take part and put on the odd post.What I would ask Collette is that it should be aded to the rules as their is no mention of it there.
Thanks guys, and good point Rab I will add it now :D
All were trying to do is build up a healthy forum for everyone here. Plus people go to a lot of trouble to put info, photo's and reviews etc on here, its not too much to ask for people to log in now and again and say thanks is it ? :D
Submitting in agreement to previous posts. As with every site of this nature a certain amount of admin and cleansing of the system needs to be done. Keep up the good work.
Didn't find the e-mail offensive at all. Great idea Collette to rouse the browsers only brigade! You and the other admin staff are doing a great job maintaining this site. Keep up the good work :D
i am 50/50 on this can see the fact that it encourges members to post and join in,but on the other hand some mainly use it for information or looking at pics and only want to post when they have something to say
