anyone aiming for the flag this year?

Postby travelingscot52 » 29 Mar 2011 22:37

Just a thought but are there any budding mountaineers out there. last year there was a group of members went to the flag after the icr team and two young ladies showed the way. It was a good day and made a lot better by the fact that there was a team together. I am quite sure jt would oblige by taking the pics from the base.
ANY TAKERS ?

We would be interested, but when are you talking about? We're there 21st August for 2 weeks.

What, actually walking to the flag this year, JT - instead of just sitting at Tommy's "supervising"?

Oh no, that means I might actually have to do the walk too then, instead of keeping you company!

You know I was only kidding - Ian's trying to persuade me to accompany him on the hike this year, but I'm trying to tell him, you will need someone to be your second-in-command at base camp!

I think ICR should have a special excursion set up on the website with details of the walk.

A regular date twice a month so people could go up to the flag in groups?

Id be up for a group flag challenge hopefully something may be set up as everybody wants to do the flag walk if safe

cheers dave

Dave I would say that to get to the flag is not exactly a walk. It is more of a scramble in places and not for the unfit, Long trousers or jeans should be worn and good trainers or sturdy shoes as the brush is quite rough ask Gene we should have taken pictures of his legs after doing it in shorts, Even going up the so called path is rough,
So take all this in to consideration if anyone has a go and take plenty of water.
I dont think it could be classed as an excursion. just like minded people having a go at the ascent

Rab
I will be in resort 21st May - 3rd June and could be convinced to have another go

Good advice indeed, Rab - as those who completed it last June will testify, it's not exactly a walk in the park!
