we took some old rings etc and they weighed them and took the price off some new rings the wife bought as she said it was better then sitting in a box not been used .we were happy with the price given

I have no idea off the cost, I just trade in and they take it off the new items, prices will vary in all shops , I like the idea when you get fed up with an item you can take it back and get it exchanged for something diffrent

Turkish shops who repair jewellery and gold are far more versatile than their British counterparts. Over the years, I have probably spent over £400 on repairs and alterations to gold - even to the point of joining two parents' gold rings together and resized to make a unique momento to their memory.

Speed of work completion and sheer quality of work - topped up by a third of British repair prices - it's a no brainer - take your repairs over there - worth the wait, honestly, even if you break a chain etc just after returning to Britain !

Excellent work without all of the b-ll--it and heavy prices that the Brit jewellers give you !

Any excuse for a Turkish holiday - I've even brought repairs and new commissions over for friends - always over the moon with the results!

Disclaimer - I am not paid by any jewellers or repairers in Turkey. Roll on May again !

Speed and quality of work, we had cz`s for show replaced with 4 marquis cut diamonds and 7 black diamonds, (yes Black diamonds) 3 days................. another time a ring resized 30 mins, no problems

I have been using the same Jewellers for 7 years, "Firuze" and I have taken many pieces in for repair including pieces from friends from the UK and I have never been charged for a repair except on one occassion when I needed a piece of Onyx replacing in one of my rings, it took a week to order and costs me 20Lira (£8) so very good value.

The work is of always good quality and highly recommended, however I have never taken gold in to sell so have no idea whether they offer a good price or not,

My OH commissioned our jeweller to make him a Gold Welsh Dragon pendant to hang from a chain. The end product was unbelievable. The detail on the dragon was fantastic, you can even see the dragon's teeth! People at home are amazed when they see it, its so fine and well made.

I have also taken old jewellery which I didn't use, and sold it part-exchange for a new product. No problem at all. We always use the jeweller to the side of ICR office (small small repair shop).

However, I did have a problem years ago with a jeweller. I had inherited a ring and it had a blue stone in the centre, which was a beautiful shade of blue. All I wanted was to have it re-set with a couple of diamonds on both sides. On returning to pick it up, I had the biggest shock of my life, he had taken my precious stone and replaced it with a cheap blue saphire. He swore blindly that it was the same stone that I had given him. But I knew he was lying to me as my blue stone was a very unusual shade of blue and I would have recognised it immediately. However, I threatened to call my turkish friends and the police. He became aggitated and ran down to his workshop with the ring, and when he returned he had ripped out the blue saphire and put my unusual stone back. He knew exactly what he was doing, because I had been told before arriving in Icmeler that my stone was a very unusual and very valuable stone. He obviously saw this and thought he would make a clever swap, but unfortunately his plan did not work. This was just a bad experience that I had. Not all jewellers are like that. I was just unlucky. But fortunately he did not make a fool out of me!

We have taken old and broken gold we have had things made and repaired the quality is excellent and service is amazing you can have things made and pick up next day the prices are brill we always use star jewellers.
If you have a picture of what you want take it they copy and end product is brilliant

We also have our repairs done in Firuze and are never charged, I always have a couple of items to take with me. Nothing seems too much trouble for them. I've had a few rings resized, I can't imagine any jeweller doing that here without charging. When buying chains I can never decide which length to have, so he makes a length of chain about two inches long with a link on both ends that I can use it as an extension, so I can wear them as two different lengths. He's made a few things for us, we describe what we'd like and he's done a drawing and we've always been delighted.

My daughter has a yellow gold bracelet that she really likes but she prefers white gold. A few years ago Murat coated it with rhodium which is a metal in the platinum group so now she wears it all the time. As I prefer yellow gold the joke in our family is that when my daughters inherit my Turkish gold, they'll take it all to Murat to be coated in Rhodium as they both prefer white gold and they think that I'll have quite a collection by then

I also have all my jewellery cleaned every year and he doesn't charge for that either.I know that you can trade in gold for something else as he told me that a few people get bored with their jewellery and he weighs it and takes the value off the price of the item that they are buying.Don't know whether he just buys the gold but I'd be surprised if he didn't.

I suppose I had better say that no charge for repairs tends to happen when you become a frequent customer, I should have said that on my original post, we had purchased for a couple of years before giving in some items for repair however you could always haggle for a free repair as part of another purchase.

yeah i was going to add that the no charge for repairs and things like that comes with you being a frequent visitor and customer to their business

Yeah, that's fair enough - wouldn't really expect free repairs without at least a few purchases.Thanks also to Katie for your input.Will certainly be visiting jewellers recommended next time we are in icmeler.

I used Firuze last year for the first time and he repaired two bracelets for free for me, I did purchase something a few days later. Murat and his wife are lovely and I will definatley be going back there this year.
