Early indications are that there are 22 injured. Reports are thatnone of the injuries are life threatening, Just hope that this remains the case.

Hi we are due to fly out to icmeler on the 22nd of september for a week we were there in june and had a great time but this has shocked us and it is making us think twice not only were we going for a holiday but we were going to buy property that we seen when over in june now we have a lot of thinking to do not only about the holiday but also about buying property we have been to icmeler a few times and love it we have also stayed in marmaris and had a great time so it is time to sit down and have a long hard think about this

This shouldn't put people off travelling abroad. Government officials have said that we shouldn't cancel our holidays and to try to get on with things as best as possible. If they thought we were in danger, they would advise us not to go! Don't let people like this win. They are not worth it. Go away & enjoy your holidays! Things like this can happen anywhere.

I agree with the last 2 posts. It's devastating that terrorism exists and that events anywhere in the world will affect how we think, where we go and what we do when there. It exists on our doorstep as well as in other places and has done for years (remember terrorism in the 70's?). What we need to remember is that terrorists are a small number compared to the population of any nationality. Unfortunately, this small minority create a sense of unease around other nations (like the Irish who were treated badly - and now Muslims).

It's natural to panic and to think twice. That's all we can do - if governments can't sort out terrorism internationally, then we definitely can't. I don't think we can say don't panic - cause we all will or at least think twice. Then we need to get on with our lives as much as possible.

I expect many of us will have heard from friends who are safe now. As friends of Turkey we can at least dispel some of the hype around events like this and do our best to ease panic - well as much as we can.

I hope the forum stays supportive and that we all do our best to settle the panic of anyone planning to travel there for the first time. As I said we can't solve the issues behind terrorism and as we've seen it can happen anywhere at any time.

Unfortunately, this is the way of the world no matter which country you live in, mindless idiots causing harm and fear to innocent people.

Our thoughts can only go to those that are injured and wish them a speedy recovery and as said above, not give those responsible, the reaction they want.

For anyone planning to go in the near future, this is perhaps the safest time to do it. I would imagine, as when all terrorist incidents happen, that security will be tightened immediately afterwards, so even in the unlikely event that the terrorists attempt any more attacks in the near future, there is a much better chance of them being stopped.

Im heading over for the first time in 2 weeks with my 8yo son. When I heard about the attacks today, my first thought was for the people involved. At no time has it crossed my mind not to go.

Im sure everyone off soon will still have a very happy, and safe, holiday

I am off to icmeler in a couple of weeks and have not been put off. Tourism in Turkey has suffered enough this year with birdflu etc. I really hope for their sakes that it isn't now made even worse by the events of today. I just hope that all involved are okay and will make a full recovery.

hi all, am shocked at whats happening in turkey and my thoughts are with those who are injured and their families. we're heading to icmeler on monday, for our 6th time, and will not be detered by terrorists who unfortunately seem to have a hold on any country you might visit. as people have said the turkish people have never had it easy and this must be one of their most difficlt years in a long time, but i look forward to returning and meeting up with old friends and showing them some support. so for all of you that are due to go out soon have a happy holidays and enjoy yourself.

Vicky, I completely understand your concerns about your holiday, and only you can decide if you should go. Why not take a day or so to consider things and if you think you couldn't relax in Turkey, then maybe you should think about going elsewhere. Good luck whatever you decide.

Hi everyone

I just wanted to let you all know last night i decided to go out for a walk and sit and have a meal , and i was amazed the amount of people that were out enjoying themselves it was wonderful. Restaurants were all busy and people were walking in the streets.It showed a unity of the tourists spirit and also the locals, that we will carry on and not be intimidated.It was great to see. Icmeler is home to many people and last night, it proved that the icmeler magic still remains, and that is only done by the people that return year after year to wake icmeler from the quiet slumber of winter and bring sunshine into the lives many.
