they need to put the shops somewhere otherwise it will just be the weekly market left
the stalls have a certain charm to them
sorry to see them go and i think the canal will be a lot quieter this year because of it

After seeing barnies pics of the new canal project I think he may have a point in saying that this new proposed canal along with its pathways will lead us to a new market area thus opening up that end of town,by doing this Icmeler will have a better range of walks in the evening.
Shops? as John says there are 100s to choose from.
Water is always a pleasant focal point and there is nothing better after a meal than strolling down the prom, canal or our new "stream"

If by He you mean the mayor, you will note further back in the tread it was not him, it was a court order awarded to the hotels to have them removed, the Mayor has to comply by law as directed by the court, he cannot be held responsible for the stall being demolished.

Hey guys. I know that we are ALL a wee bit miffed regarding the stalls going, but we are only a matter of weeks away from the start of the new season. Surely it will be all tidied up by then and the forum members here can post some positive things about the new look Icmeler.
It can't be ALL doom and gloom. After all, most of us will have already booked to return.
Whatever the differences will be, personally I can't wait to be back.

I've found that all the changes have been for the better so hopefully will find the same this year. I'm looking forward to seeing the canal extension.

Think this is a terrible shame - they really add charm to the canal. I love looking along here on the way home from the beach or if I fancy a break from sunbathing. It really won't be the same without it. I always spend quite a few lira along there as I don't enjoy the market at all so don't tend to visit there. :(

I can't imagine it is good news for the bars /restaurants either as many people stroll along the stalls and then decide to eat in the restaurants / bars on the way back.

Aww this news has ruined my Tuesday!! I know many people are saying they think all the changes have improved icmeler but I don't like all the changes. I preferred the old wooden bridges along the canal & i don't like the fact dancing on bar is banned etc & that music has to go off at 12. I hope they don't continue to change things else it could risk loosing its charm! I already feel Icmeler has lost some of it's charm because hassling is banned now. I agree that many years ago, it was too much & needed to be toned now but now some bars are too scared to even say hello!

Despite all my moaning, I still love the place and have just booked 2 weeks in June.

I can't believe this is happening, it's so sad, thoses little stalls are all part of the charm of icmeler. we are staying at the moonlight aparts in June and often chat to the mayor there, i will certainly be asking him a few questions.................shocking

As has been pointed out before though, this hasn't come about through the mayor, but rather a decision made by the courts following complaints, so it's difficult to know what the mayor would be able to do about it.

I'll also be really sad to see the stalls go, but I'm still looking forward to seeing Icmeler and all the changes when we arrive in June. Many people were worried about all the changes taking place before last season, but the reality didn't seem so bad once we all got there - hopefully it'll be the same this time.

I have watched this thread with interest since it started and can see that many people are upset by the changes. I myself was very upset to hear of the changes last Sept/Oct and felt they would be detrimental to the resort that we all love. It is human nature to resist change we are all guily of it to a greater or lesser extent, but change is fundemental to life itself. If change doesn't occur then it and us will wither and die. Now I look forward to May to see the changes and get a feel for the new and refreshed Icmeler. I may find that the changes are not to my liking or they may well be to my liking but in the end Icmeler will still be my piece of heaven.

Regards to all Icmelerites

I've had it confirmed that the stalls are being moved to an area up near the town hall.
