Re: canal stalls

We were told by several of the stall holders that they would be moved up to the road that runs from the bus station alongside the Arya Apartments and across and up to the back of the BTT, not an area most people go to in the evening. Our friends said it was doubtfull if they would go up there and would look for small shops. Surely we can find out an address or e mail for the Mayor and if everyong sends him a communication it may make him stop and think (if Mayors ever think), we can also get everyone we meet on our hols to do the same. If he has enough complaints he may rethink!!!!

Last years changes where excellent and enhanced Icmeler.

Must admit feel a bit negative about this years - Segways I sincerley hope not, better make sure the holiday insurance covers being run over on the prom!
That change has happened and we have the photos to prove it.

Hope the Canal stalls stay - the resort will lose a lot if not.

3 years ago we went to Hawaii and our perception was Hawaii 50 - Honalulu is nothing but designer shops charging ridiculous prices and the hotels extending on to Wai Ki Ki beach.

'progress' is not always good.

Hope my concerns are unfounded

Pete.

my friend hudo last night said the decision has been made so he is looking everyday for a shop to rent as he says where they are being moved to by the post office no one passes there so it would not be worth opening

Re: canal stalls

So what are they going to do with the spaces left after the stalls have gone, more palm trees to fight your way around i suppose.

Re: canal stalls

02 Feb 2011 14:32

Hey Fox, don't expect miracles

will go track Zaza down, he goes to the council meetings as well :D

Re: canal stalls

02 Feb 2011 16:24

I was told it was the residents who had complained about the stalls, too much noise, also heard that bars could go there, which would not make sense if they are complaining about noise

Re: canal stalls

I got an email response today, according to my source it was the nearby hotels who went to court to have them moved as their guests were continually complaining about constant hassle, (I actually found it OK down there), the court sided with the hotels and ordered them to be removed from that location, apparently it was not a council decision but an order they needed to comply with. This is the same as last year when restaraunts had to remove changes that had no planning permission, we all blamed the mayor and the council when it was actually out of their control.

That is also my understanding.

Re: canal stalls

What hassle down there ? Wonder which nationality complained ?

So the answer is fill the space with bars and let the bars hassle you to go in even more ? Also by putting bars there, it's increasing the competion on surrounding bars and in turn decreasing there profit.

Well done who ever thought of this, absolute bloody genius.

We can all take a guess at what nationality/ies complained can't we...
If they are going to fill the spaces with bars, won't that create more noise and hassle than the stalls did?
Hassle? Was there any? I think not!! It was so lovely walking along the canal at night. Will miss the stalls this year :(
As you say Colette...absolutely bloody genuis!!!

Re: canal stalls

02 Feb 2011 21:29

Seem ridiculous to me - I never had any hassle walking down there, and I feel really s rry for the stallholders who are going to lose out now, because most folk won't bother to walk out of their way to the new location.

Re: canal stalls

03 Feb 2011 00:12

Like everyone else we will miss our evening walks browsing round the stalls, feel really sorry for the stall holders who will lose out, have never heard anyone complaining about being hassled and has already been said moving more bars here will not reduce the noise its just crazy!!!!

Re: canal stalls

03 Feb 2011 21:58

I am very sorry about the stalls.we really enjoyed the atmosphere, and an easy walk bargain hunting after dinner.

Re: canal stalls

Always enjoyed our strolls around the canal stalls. It's such a shame if they move as they will lose a lot of custom especially from "passing trade." What I can't understand is that if they are being moved because of the hassling are they saying that the "no hassle policy" doesn't work? It seems to have worked for the restaurants which covers a large area so why can't they control the "so called" hassling in such a small area by the canal? From what I remember a large number of plain clothes police were around when this policy first came in, surely they wouldn't need many strolling around the canal?

I've never had a problem with hassling with these stallholders but I still find the hairdressers a pain.

Re: canal stalls

04 Feb 2011 15:35

aww this sucks
we loved walking down the canal at night looking at all the stalls
as others have commented what a stupid idea to remove them
xxxx

Re: canal stalls

04 Feb 2011 23:35

Just an idea.......but would a petition help? Surely if holiday makers have complained about the noise we are entitled to complain about the loss of the canal stalls, I for one will sign as will members of my family and I dare say there will be huge numbers on here willing to fight for the canal stalls and what we love-what next I wonder???? Where will this changing our beloved Icmeler end? If something works why change it?
Lets fight this! Do not accept this stupid decision without letting our feelings to be known!! WHO AGREES WITH THIS?

Re: canal stalls

05 Feb 2011 00:20

yeah i think that a petition sounds like a good idea we have nothing to lose
and the council or government or courts or whoever has implemented this decision should listen to the holidaymakers that keep coming back time and time again
:) xxxxxxx
