ABACUS IDAS?

Postby emwilk » 14 Aug 2006 08:58

Hi, Me and my man have never been to turkey before but booked on saturday to go next sunday (20th) to icmeler. Staying at the Abacus Idas...? Anyone know what it's like?

Any places we should visit? Anything we shouldn't miss out on?!

I searched the forum on abacus idas but didn't find anything?!

Thanks!

Idas

I stayed at the Idas (pronounced E-dash) in May. It was ok. Food was a bit naff but generally it was a nice hotel with basic but clean rooms. It is very central and the staff were fantastic. I am sure you will have a nice time. (And if you get bored with the hotel, then Oscar's Pop Inn Restaurant is just over the road!)

Idas is in the centre so you'll have everything on your doorstep. If this is your first time, I would suggest...
the transfer can be up to 2 hours with a stop-off - the price at the stop off is very high and not what you can expect in resort. With the problems here it won't be possible to take water on the plane, you might like to buy a couple of bottles on the plane so you don't have to buy at the stop-off.
Icmeler is a reat place and half of the experience is finding out about it yourself - it's small enough for you to get around easily and safely.
Market day is Thursday - worth a visit for the experience alone but make sure you've got flat shoes and mobile enough to walk for a good while. There's a few places to sit and have a drink/kebab etc.
Boat trips come in 2 kinds - either for those who love swimming or those who don't! The Dalyan trip is relaxing with a visit to the mud baths - take a pair of flipflops you can wash - I foudn the slabs quite rough. I spent 8hours on a lovely boat trip trip but it became hell because it stops off at the lovely bays for swimming and diving off the boat - I dont' do either!
So, great if you just want to relax onboard.
Money - you'll see on the site people take some Turkish and GB pounds. You can use sterling for shopping and in many restaurants - there's a few cashpoints around the resort - I've used them so they can't be that difficult.
The way to get around is by dolmus - a minibus that costs a1.5lire. This runs along the main road and into Marmaris. Marmaris is bigger and busier than Icmeler with a different market day. Well worth a visit - the harbour is lovely but I hear it can be expensive. There's loads of bars and restaurants along the main road - just up the side roads that are cheaper.
Have a look on the main page of this site - there's a list of things to do and you can book before you go if you want.
For a walk, try going up into old village - the dolmus also goes up there - you'll find apartments and hotels, bars, restaurants and some shops but it's also just a nice walk.

Enjoy and remember to let us all know how much.
