Yes Colette I think it will continue for a while yet. Said on the news last night that alot of countries such as Greece have cancelled all flights coming into the UK today aswell.

Anything you buy after the security checks is fine, although I think drinks should be unopened for taking onto the plane.
So you may buy all the normal stuff to take with you in cluding books/magazines.
Also duty free drinks and cigs are OK.

The restrictions apply only when passing through the security checks.

There are no new restrictions for the return flight which considering the prices at Dalaman is a godsend!

Some one told me stuff like deoderants are not meant to go in the hold because of the presurization?

Also are the suitcase being scanned thru a x ray scanner as well?

Colette - Aerosols are Ok in the hold and bags in the hold have been X-rayed for years.

Just a couple of questions:

I know you will be able to buy cigs in the duty free... but does anyone know if I would be able to take a couple of loose cigs in my clear carrier bag through security to the departure lounge? (mind you.... would definitely not be able to take a lighter through - maybe a barman would have one I could borrow....)

Do you think the cold temperatures that are reached in the hold could damage mobiles and other digital equipment packed in your suitacase? Or would they be ok wrapped up in clothing/towels?

Have also just read on another site that the same security measures have now been implemented at all Turkish airports (no hand baggage). The person who posted had also heard that duty free bought at Dalaman was being confisciated - but that was unconfirmed....

I dont think they will allow anything other than the items stated, it's just a case of going straight to duty free, buying cigarettes and ripping them open. You will probably have to go to the newsagent to buy a lighter too.

I am flying tonight and will post details of how things went tomorrow.

oh by the way can you let us know if they supply cleaer pastic bags at the airport otherwise i will have to go looking for one, i dont think a tesco or asda bag with pass as clear do you?

I am pretty certain that they do provide the bags. (I flew to Ibiza 2 days after 9/11 when things were pretty similar and they did then)

Obviously I will only be able to comment on the situation at Newcastle. However, as these are national guidelines, things should be the same everywhere.

I bought some ex-large food & freezer bags from @sda to take as my hand luggage just in case they are not supplying them - it is common knowledge that they are needed.

we don't even know how long this no hand luggage will continue or really whats happening in the future.

I would rather buy some extra large food bags as well and be safe on my plane

If you havent seen on the news this morning the restrictions have changed slightly. You are now allowed one piece of hand luggage only particular sizes however. Youa re also allowed books and magazines etc and laptops and cd players etc. You cannot take any liquids, this includes lotions and things like that also. There will still be full body searches taking place.
Seems to be getting a bit better.

What I meant, was that it is common knowledge that the plastic bags are needed, (or were) for flight so why not supply your own??

They have said that the hand luggage rule will probably be lifted within the next 24 hours.

Ok Guys and Gals,
Here ýs my story as promýsed and I can only speak for an Onur Flýght from Newcastle.
Flew from Newcastle last nýght @ 21:30, arrýved 3 hours early and check in was a breeze (all I was carryýng was the prescribed items).
Before the normal securýty check there was someone who checked boardýng cards and remýnded you of the restrýctýons also made a cursory check of your clear plastýc bag (that was supplýed at checkýn).
On to the normal securýty check where everythýng ýncludýng your shoes ýs X-Rayed (remember only the prescribed ýtems through here. There was a big box of teddy bears that had been confýscated)
Ok you are now ýnto the depature lounge and can start spendýng money.
You may buy drinks crýsps and sweets etc from WH Smiths. But, you can not take them on the plane.
For the smokers among us here is a horror story.
No cýgarettes through the checks so bought 20 for 5 pound at Smýths, smoked 8 and had to throw the rest away.
You can however buy Cýgs, alcohol and perfume from duty free and take them on the plane as long as they are not opened.
Really Onur are beiýng very strýct and you are checked agaýn before gettýng on the plane.
