Exchange Rate

I'm sorry if this has been answered before, but is the exchange rate on the main page the rate in the resort or in the UK. I know its a bank rate and I won't quite get that.

It`s the turkish bank rate if you see 2.38 knock off 0.02 (i.e.2.36) and that`s about the rate you should get in Icmeler

Popped into town today and the rates at Thmsons and Thmas Cook were:

Thmsons - 2.21
Thmas Cook - 2.25

Must be almost 2.3 in resort?

Could someone who has just returned from Icmeler let us know what Exchange Rate they were receiving and from where during their holiday.

You can get 2.3 from Travelex on-line and pick it up at the airport.

Could this be a regular post as what the rate is in resort, or make a sticky for it. I for one will post the rates when I go out on a daily basis as I need to check my emails daily so it's no probs to me and I'm sure their are a lot like me. Just a thought.

arrived thursday and we got 2.35 from Murat at Wonderboys, yesterday we got 2.34 frrom supermarket next to the Ince aparts in the old village

the rates are really hard to gauge this year as all the exchange places are showing different ones so you dont know for sure which one is the correct bank rate
but its about 2.35 right now in the supermarkets which is getting better

This will give you a list of the best deals you can get on travel money in the UK. Just change the currency to turkish lira and pop in say £100. It will give you the best rates and where you can get it from. At the moment of typing this it is showing the best rate of 2.318 (but you have to collect).

I hope this helps for people wanting a little bit of lira to take out with them for the 1st day. Like I said If the link isn't allowed then please remove.

If we took Sterling Traveller's Chqs would we be able to change these in supermarkets??? And would we get the same rate or have to pay comission. I'm torn what to do about our money, we normally take sterling cash but not sure it's such a good idea as I no longer have a credit card for back up in emergencies.

Yeah you can change your travellers cheques in the supermarkets but you usually need your passport with you. They will make a note of your passport number and put it on the travellers cheque (I think for fraud prevention and to make sure the cheque actually belongs to you).
I always got the same exchange rate on my cheque as I did with sterling cash so you shouldn't have a problem (somebody please quote me on that if I'm wrong).

Completely agree with Karl, we have always got the same rate as cash in the supermarkets, we tend to use the BEST supermarket opposite the Romance restaurant as they give you a card so you don't need to carry your passporty. Don't use the change offices as they charge a hefty commission and the rates are not as good.

Does anyone know where is the best place to buy them here in the UK? I bank with Natwest and I think their commission on Sterling TC is 1%. I don't have accounts elsewhere, I doubt there is anywhere that offers them for less comission?

You lot have been getting excellent rates in Icmeler, we have just returned from Turgetreis and at the exchange offices we were only getting 2.22 to 2.25, then some one told us to go to the bank and exchange our money and we were getting 2.35, what a difference. Also found Turgetreis to be more expencive than Icmeler Efes was 5tl in most places and although the chicken meal prices were about the same as we paid in Icmeler last year the steak meals were a lot more expensive averaging around 35tl. How does that compare as we are coming back to Icmeler in September and dont want any shocks.

Hi admin,

I'm not sure where you can get a better rate in the UK. I usually spend a bit of time hunting round and that website always gives the best rate that I can find. A lot of people go to the post office and get their money changed as they usually get a decent rate from there. But as today stands from the P.O. website they will give you 2.2891 per £. Whereas that website shows you that you can get a rate of 2.325 per £.

I'm not arguing with you or disagreeing with you, I'm just a bit miffed as it shows a list of comparisons. I don't think its a bad starter to see what is available if you can't find anything better (which to date I can't but if you can point me in the right direction. The more lira per pound then the more Efe's I get down my neck ).

Ive exchanged £100 sterling at Asda today and i got 240 Turkish Lira which i thought is very good !!!!
