Sami you have reminded me that we also bought three pairs of "Vans" for each of our boys too :D

Was in Edinburgh last week and my eldest asked for a pair at £53  In Icmeler we paid £10 per pair and even the picky older girls said they couldn't tell the difference.

I will definitely be taking an empty case when we go in July lol :D

Unfortunately everywhere is getting more expensive, but the ale is good and the food is even better, who wants a cheap holiday anyway, dont mind paying a little more if the quality is there and I would say it is.Alot of countrys you holiday in these days you cant even go out of your resort ,so you are stuck there, not so in Icmeler :D

Agreed. We're trying to weigh up the pro's & con's of expensive airfare and cheaper resort compared to cheaper airfare and more expensive resorts!
To be honest we've not seen much cheaper flights for other countries!
So might be a case if bite the bullet and hope the airfares come down!!!

Expensive Airfare and cheap resort?
Cheap Airfare and expensive resort?

Which ever question gives the answer Icmeler is the one I will go for.

I still think the resort is excellent value for money especially if the echange rate is 2.5+

I'm still looking for the other topic about Efes but as this was a good discussion at the time and the forum is a bit slow yet I thought I would bring this back on top for maybe some new members to read

I'm with you there Dave! Agree 100%. :D

I also agree with sami, we're going for a bit longer too (last year was 10 days and we spent almost £1,000 between 3 of us. We also did boat trip, jeep safari, taxi boats, Turkish bath (including all the extra's - massage, oil etc.), ate out every night and drank a lot of alcohol lol.

This year we're going for 2 weeks and I'm taking £3,000 so should be more than fine (so long as the rate doesn't drop to silly prices) - I also saw some nice clothes (jeans, tops etc.) in Marmaris so may have to go for a shopping trip or 2 lol

Hi all, love the comments. We haven't been to Icmeler for 3 year , back this year YIPEE . The past 3 years we have been to Turgutreis in June and Alanya in September both of these places are much more expensive than Icmeler, going on prices published on the forum, but we had great holidays in both resorts. We really don't think about what we are going to spend, that's not to say we have money to waste, we take what we think we will need and if money get tight towards the end of the holiday we can always cut back on a few things. We have always brought money back with us. Do you really need to eat in a resturant every night ? Not something we do at home. Why not have a resturant meal 1 night and the next have a good lunch and just go for a leisurely drink and a kebab at the end of the night, you will be surprised at how far your money can go by doing this. What ever you decide I hope everyone has a fantastic holiday, see you all there.

I too went to Turgetreis in 2011 (Akyarlar to be precise) and yes it was more expensive than last year in Icmeler. We were paying between 6-8 TL for an Efe's. Last year it was between 4.5-6TL at most places we drank at.

madmackem wrote:...Do you really need to eat in a resturant every night ? Not something we do at home...

Well there's a lot of things we don't do at home - sunbathe in glorious sun every day, drink vast quantities of alcohol (ok, some may do lol), walk around at snails pace due to searing heat and lack of urgency, swim in the pool or sea every day amongt other things.

I like to think that I save all year for 2 glorious, stress free weeks and I like to eat nice food on holiday so for me, yes I do need to eat in a restaurant every day on holiday - it''s all part of the experience.

I appreciate some people may be on a budget (believe me, I've been there) and there's nothing worse than having to count everything you spend and putting so much aside for each day. Surely it's worth scrimping a few extra pounds to enjoy the holiday experience a bit more, even if it's saving £1 or £2 coins in a jar (a lot of people on here do that). We did it last year and over 8 months we had almost £500...

Luckily for us, I have an additional job as a mobile DJ and pull in, on average, around £1,000 per month - that is all extra so a lot of it goes towards my holiday fund. It's hard work but I enjoy doing it - here's my normal weekly schedule:
Mon - Wed - up at 6am for work at 8am - 5pm, home for 6pm (an hour travelling each way)
Thur - up at 6am - home at 11:15pm - quiz night in local pub after work
Fri - up at 6am, home at 3am (Sat) - Disco in a venue approx 30 miles from home after work
Sat - usually disco from 6pm - midnight or 1am (weddings, birthdays anniversaries etc.)
Sun - mostly day off but will do a disco if one comes in.

I believe in the motto, "work hard, play hard" so my 2 weeks holiday is a relaxing and quality time with my wife and daughter and definitely worth the hard work schedule in my opinion :)

Well, it is a business I run and as much as I hate filling in tax returns, it's one of those things that you just have to do! :)

I get your drift sunseeker2011, and agree with you that a holiday is what it is, a chance to do something totally diffrent from home, my point was that there are ways in which you can budget a holiday if you need to. Its never happened to us but I imagine it would be a complete nightmare if during a 2 week holiday half way through the second week you start to run short.

Yes, there are ways to budget a holiday from the booking phase all the way through to the actual holiday itself. We have had to do this before when my 'other' business was in it's infancy.

It's not much fun having to endlessly count your spending money to make sure you have enough to last the duration of the holiday but yes, like you say, a holiday is as cheap or as expensive as you want it to be. If you don't have much money, you just need to be careful on what you spend it on, not too many excursions etc.

Either way, I go mainly for the guarantee of 2 weeks glorious sunshine (you don't tend to get that over here lol) and the dining experience is all part of the enjoyment (for us anyway).

Still can't bloody wait, I love Icmeler - this'll be my second visit :)

i am of the same ilk, also do a second job ontop of my main, save coins to pay for the little extras, always go for 2 weeks, and the routine is always the same, days 1-4 chill n laze about, days 5-10, drink, trips, shop, party, days 10-14 chill down, detox. this will be my 4th visit to icemeler in 5 years, (year off last year), booked and paid up in july last year, then gave us time to save the spends. 8)

Hello,
Thanks to everyone who replied to this post of mine, like most have said you dont go away to srimp and save and i agree, thats why we are going again in September this time for 17 nights. We decided how much we loved this place on the last few days of our holiday last year and booked again. I cant imagine us going anywhere else now, things get expensive everywhere, so what the hell just have to do a bit more overtime.
Thanks again.
17th September for 17 nights hope to see some of you there, if so get in touch.

I have to say i couldn't see much in the way of increases, we came back last week and there was 4 adults and 4 kids and we budgeted for eating 2 main meals a day, drinks when they wanted them , and a few drinkies during the afternoon for Nanny and Bampy and we had a budget of 2k for 11 days, we returned with over £400 and 200 Lira we didn't scrimp at all, oh and i paid £70 for a tattoo, so i don't think that was to bad at all.
