Dreamboys (on the canal)

Postby bellabella » 31 Jul 2009 08:50

Having read a few reviews over the last couple of days I have noticed some very negative comments about Dreamboys on the Canal and I thought I would add my experience. My daughter and I have been going to Icmeler since she was 3 years old, she is now 16. Like most young girls she does attract a bit of attention but has never been involved with a Turkish lad. She appreciates the hard work they do, we are always respectful and simply say the usual no thank you and maybe tomorrow. However this wasn't good enough for the guy on the door at Dreamboys, because she simply waved and walked on and wouldn't return to take his hand etc he shouted foul abuse at her as she walked on, it got worse, she was with a friend at the time, was totally shocked and admits that in the end she stuck two fingers up at him out of sheer embarrrassment, she came to find me absolutely distraught. I went along to the restaurant and in a calm and quiet tone asked him never to approach my daughter again. Well his response was horrific. He pointed his finger right into my face and told me to F*** off at the top of his voice at least a dozen times in front of the diners and passersby, the agression in his voice and on his face was very frightening, I actually thought he was going to slap me. I've never experienced anything like it in the resort before. The manager said he would be spoken to but there he was back on the door the following evening. Yet two minutes walk way you come across the Majestic were the service and respect could not be faulted.

We did experience one or two other situations were banter and a polite no thanks from us turned into downright abuse and rudeness, if this is what a pretty 16 year old has to deal with simply because she wants to have a relatively peaceful holiday with her mum then I think that after 13years in Icmeler we may go elsewhere.

Apart from this the holiday, food, accomodation and the rest of the locals were as great as ever.

Know EXACTLY who you are talking about. We had the same problem with him. We had already eaten in there a few times and one night were walking down the canal to go to Majestics (had already booked a table earlier that day) The guy stopped us and asked us where we were going. Told him Majestics for a meal but would probably come back for a drink later on.

Told us if we weren't eating in the restaurant not to bother coming back for a drink.

Very rude, which is a shame as there are some lovely staff working there. He seems to lower the tone of the whole restaurant.

I'm always very careful how I deal with people in a different (And especially in this case, non-EU) country. With a language barrier, I am aware there might be complications should something escalate.

In the UK however, if some restaurant staff treated my daughter in that manner, he would very quickly find himself in a lot of trouble!

I wonder if this guy (And we all must know him, it must be that one who's been the hassle guy all this year) would have been so brave if if had been Erik, or me, or some other guy suddenly in his face, instead of yourself a woman  He's not exactly the most threatening macho man is he, miserable little drip!

Is there not somewhere this sort of thing can be reported? This ever becomes too regular, we won't be back either

I hope people don't let incidents such as this put them off returning to Icmeler as a whole. It would be a real pity, as this type of thing is (thankfully) relatively rare in Icmeler, and let's hope it remains that way. The vast majority of staff working in the bars and restaurants are great - hospitable, friendly and welcoming, and it would be a shame if their reputations were to be tarnished by the actions of a very small minority.

We are heading off the Icmeler in a few weeks and dreamboys was one of the restaurants we were planning to visit as we went there quite a few times last year and found the staff and food very good. Though after reading this posting I would seriously consider giving it a definite miss. I know the guys are trying to pull customers into the bars and restaurants but really they don't need to be so rude and offensive. I am sure yourself and your daughter were absolutely horrified. If I see this guy when I am there and get any of his abuse I will certinly be showing him some of our Northern Irish charm!!!!!!

I also know who you are talking about. It's a disgrace.

He never directly threatened us (maybe because we have 5 men out of 7 people in our party!) but he was always hassling us, a lot, compared to any other restaraunts in Icmeler. That is the main reason we didn't go in Dreamboys this year despite our great experience in the restaurant last year. And the worst thing about it that his restaraunt was practically full. I haven't got a clue how he does it and how he actually gets away with it too.

We are returning next year and I for once will not be entering that restaraunt until that w****r has left.

It wasn't as bad last year as he worked primarily in Dream Friends up next to Vince's. But with that closed down he is now the frontman for DreamBoys. He seems to take personal offence when you say that you like the entertainment in other restaurants prob cos he IS the entertainment there (michael Jackson, Tina Turner, Grease, Dirty Dancing etc.)
I don't think it is unreasonable for people who are on a two week holiday to want to visit more than one place.
Anyway, he has never crossed the line with our party as bellabella described.
Sounds like a nightmare and very intimidating for such a young girl.

Over the years we have been visiting Icmeler we have always had a couple of nights at the Dreamboys, they used to be one of the top places to go too Last May we had the worst meal we have ever had in Turkey, the service was very poor and I pointed this out to YA YA. We had already decided to give it a miss when back in Icmeler but after reading the disgusting treatment expierenced by this family I now say I will never return as I feel for these people as if they were part of my own family.

Going back in Sept and if hassled by him will tell this man to read Icmeler Online Forum, if we all do that he might get the message, if he is rude to us he will end up with a bunch of fives.

It's so good to see everyone posting they won't patronise this place, and generally getting behind bella. That's the sort of thing which makes a forum not so much just a forum...but a community.

We have only been there once, and never again.

Thought we would give it a try as the guy on the door was a nice chap, but as soon as we were seated and ordered our food, they just acted like we were a piece of ****. Probably think this was down to the fact that most of the bar was filled with families with young girls, or groups of mature women, who they thought would be of more interest to them, than a married couple.

Rubbish service, Not very nice food, hence one of the very very few places I have not left a tip, and wont be returning to.

This thread dosent surprise me.

He will end up in the canal if he speaks to me like that in September.

Went off this place a few years ago, the service went rubbish and the meals were cold
