Effes!

Postby jejo » 20 May 2006 21:47

Since we have started going to Turkey, (this will be our 3rd time, 2nd in Icmeler) hubby fell in love with Effes and has tried everywhere in our area to buy it. The local Wetherspoons pub has been selling it and let us buy a bottle to take home, (depends on who's serving, some won't let you buy it to take away) but hubby loves sitting at home watching the footie and having a beer, so Effes was out - until today. We went to our local Tesco's and guess what I saw on the shelf - yes bottles and bottles of Effes. I thought hubby was going to start screaming there and then. He was just like a little boy in a sweet shop. We return to Icmeler in just over 6 weeks and hubby thought that he was going to have to wait till then to have a right good Effes bevvy, but he is now sitting in the livingroom with the biggest smile on his face watching tv. So thank you Tesco's for making a grown man almost cry with joy (funny what makes men happy)!
It is in 50cl bottles and costs £1.29 each. Please leave some for hubby as he might just have a tantrum if he goes to get some during the week and it's all gone.

Yes, Colette, it's in our local retail park in Falkirk (hope no-one from this area notices this and hubby can drink them all) We thought the price was good as the bottles are not wee ones and are quite big. Hope you can buy some at your local Tesco,s. Enjoy a little bit of Turkish paradise right here in rainy old Britain and think of the beautiful blue skies, warm sun, and the lovely turkish people as you are drinking it!

This might sound a bit daft but how do you pronounce Effes. Is is as it sounds efs or is it fs or something completely different. Any ideas? Di.

PS: I have mine from Makro at £10.00 plus VAT for 24 bottles.

Hi Diane and TurkishDelight, I think that Effes is readily available in most Macro's and Cost Cutters, especially in England, but going by previous posts in HT, it was not so easily to get in Scotland - till now! Hopefully this is not just a promotion in Tesco's and will be permanent. Will try to find out next time I'm there, might be today as hubby is saying "don't we need to go to Tesco's today, I need razors" funny but he didn't need them yesterday when we were there!

Diane, I think Effes is pronounced E ff E s , sounding the second E, not Efs but I'm probably wrong. I'm sure someone will know the correct pronounciation.
