Euro 2008-Which Teams Will You All Be Supporting ?

Postby cockneyjambo » 09 May 2008 16:07

As the Football (Euro2008) is on in early June and us Brits have no particular interest who will you all be supporting ?

Turkey are playing two games while we are there (7th June versus Portugal) and 11th June ( Switzerland) so I think we could be shouting for them - you never know we might get a few free Efes if they win.

Anyone else out there got any particular teams that they will be cheering on.

Forgot to ask- anyone got any recommendations for good bars to watch the footy in ?

We were quite near the Geordie Bar last August when Newcastle were on Sky and it sounded pretty mental in there.

We'll be supporting Turkey and also Germany because there's quite a few Germans in our hotel and it was a great atmosphere last year when the footie was on

We will be cheering on Turkey too, my husband still has his shirt from 2002. It was a brilliant atmoshere that year, we watched it in the Venice and some of the staff jumped in the canal to celebrate. The Three Bells is good to watch it as they have a giant screen.

I've now nailed my colours to the mast and will bw wearing my newly acquired Turkey shirt during the Euros.

EDIT: Piccie removed as they are not allowed in this forum.

PS to Tony Tigwall- do you know either Dave King ( now managing Stourbridge Youth Team and owner of Soccerkings) or Jason Bott who is on the board at Willenhall Town. Both of these are good mates of mine.

Similarly Paul Danks who is playing for Stourbridge and Rob Smith who used to manage Willenhall and is now in charge at Telford.

Euro 2008 who will you be supporting

Postby Trish » 10 May 2008 21:33

Didn't realise Turkey were in it! Sort of lost interest when we got knocked out, So it's a definate for me! Come on Turkey :P

This thing of supporting other teams in big competitons is becoming a bit of a habit this year, speaking as a Liverpool fan, Still can't decide on the champions league one! I'll be in Icmeler for that!

However! I arrive the day before the F.A cup final and will definately be supporting Mr Harry Redknapp! as he is a superb guy, and has a son who played for Liverpool :D

FAO Tony

If you arrive on 6th June why don't you come along to the "Do" that has been arranged in Vincent's Bar on 8th June @ 9 o'clock.

I think quite a few people off this forum will be there so it will be good to put faces to names etc.

Good idea about an occasional beer and a chat about the footie while the girls do their thing - if you don't mind my father -in-law joining in and telling you all about when Spurs had a decent team. (Apparently it was when we had black and white telly!)

Anyway if you can't make the 8th just look for a sunburnt and probably slightly merry bloke in a Turkey / Wolves / England or Hearts shirt bobbing from bar to bar in Icmeler.

We are always in The Red Lion, if you speak to the Gaffer (Ahmed), or Gogo and ask for Karen and Andy they will point us out.

Just a thought - did you know Harry Hill who was physio at Lye Town ?

He passed away just over a year ago but his funeral was like a who's who of local football - great fella sadly missed.

Fao andy
Alright andy yeah went to harrys funeral top bloke.
Your father in law would im sure make great conversation as lets face it the longer youve been on this planet the more you know, and i could talk forever about footie no matter what era.
We are defo goin to do at vinces but will pop in and have a look at red lion.
Weve been going to icmeler 15 years and never tried that place, where is it.
We are stopping at the Kontes on the beach always stop there nice little hotel, no pool but we like beach and our two sons are grown up 23 20.
I used to also scout for Wolves for a good few years but gave up 12 mths ago too much.
Keith Lowe was one of my lads.
Dean Edwards ex Willenhall manager reckons hes got a new job and asked me to assist him so considering that or may go back to scouting been asked to work for the Albion but my family will disown me.
Better save some chat for Icmeler or admin will censor me again

Tony - I'm sure we will have plenty to yatter about !

The Red Lion (from Kontes Hotel) would be straight up the road from the beach until you see the Three Bells. Turn right along that road ( I think it's the main Marmaris Road) and the Red Lion is on the right hand side about 150 yards from the Three Bells. It's next to the York House and in front of the Traveller's Rest.
