I have been onto the Aegean flights website but there is very little information on their hopefully you guys can help
I am due to fly out in 10 days from Glasgow having booked my flights accom and transfers separately. If volcanic ash persists and I am unable to fly out, who do I make a claim against. Would it be Aegean or is it a case of raising a claim through travel insurance. Similarly if the flight is cancelled on the way back, I know I need to keep all receipts etc but who would I make a claim against and basically how would I get back home.
I am assuming that there will numerous others on her who will be in a similar situation
Any help greatly appreciated

as aegean are a turkish airline i dont know how much you will be covered for
because they were saying that your only covered if your flying with a european airline and turkey are not in the EU
hopefully you will be ok though
the civil aviation authority might have some more information on it though

We may all be in the same boat (should that be plane!!??) the way this ash cloud is hanging over us all (literally)!!
Will be gutted if my flight is cancelled next Friday!!!

I'm not sure if you'll get a refund because of Turkey not being in the EU. However, I think Agaean may offer you an alternative flight if you're affected.
I don't think you can make a claim on your travel insurance. Most of them don't pay out I believe as it classes as an "Act of God".
Anyway, I think you should be fine for flying out anyway! I wish you the best of luck. Enjoy your holiday.

Sorry mate I go off like you next Friday and I am thinking more positive about the situation and taking it as if every thing at present is OK and will remain so.
Where the Ash cloud has been causing trouble this week is off the flight path of UK to Turkey and I will only start to worry when there is something to worry about.
Aegean Flights are members of ABTA.
Take a Credit Card with you to cover any unexpected requirements.....

i always pay for my flights by credit card for that extra insurance i would think you would be covered if you paid by credit card good luck

Aegean flights are part of H4U and are a British based company not Turkish.

my insurance company covers for this, but it says if you book a holiday now for say end of summer you are not covered as you were aware of what could happen, roll on tomorow i will be there
13 May 2010 07:10
I've had a letter from my travel insurance company to say they will be paying out for any claims related to the volcanic ash. I think you've just got to check with your particular insurance as to how they're dealing with the situation.

ohhh, we are due to fly on 27 May, havent even had our tickets let alone the ash cloud causing problems, they better not cancel my holiday

, does anyone know of anyone that was due to fly in the last week and if so did they get to Turkey ok??!?!??
13 May 2010 08:35
We're due to fly on the 27th too, jo-marie, so fingers crossed all round, eh?
13 May 2010 09:35
yeah blondie
to be honest i think its just your luck of the draw
cause if it keeps errupting then it will cause problems for the whole summer season
so if your lucky then you will get your holiday
if not you might have some problems
lets just hope it stops errupting soon

As long as its gone by August...

From what I have read at work most insurance companies are dealing with claims relating to the volcanic ash, it would be bad PR if they didn't however you would of had to have bought your travel insurance BEFORE the volcano errupted. If you bought your travel insurance after the erruption then it is a 'known event' and therefore not covered.

I follow the ash clouds on
http://www.radarvirtuel.com , which also allows you to follow aircraft from around europe, and if you click on the aircraft it gives you its flight details to and where its going, flight number, speed ect.
