I would be more than happy for the music to go on until 1am, as long as it wasnt boom boom, I agree with one of the previous posters and I do think the atmosphere dies a bit when the music is switched completely off.

We have been to Icmeler since 1996 and i can't remember it ever being 'hell on earth'
I think its getting there now due to the awful racket between bars, different music competing, thats hell on earth.This is making Icmeler less classy in my opinion, I suppose i was younger then and am looking back with rose tinted specs ??
I still think the extra hour with more relaxing music would be ok.

I love Icmeler and will keep returning but i thought it was much better when i first started to visit, we have some really lovely memories, and I'm happy for that.

Also just to add, I thought Lespaul put his case very eloquently but 'the balance of what exists' was altered in the first place by turning the music off at 12pm.

The way I see it- there are very many lovers of Icmeler, that's why we are here. If you love somewhere then why try to change it? With all due respect if holidaymakers do not like the music regulations as they are then perhaps they should find a resort with the music times exactly as they want them. Why a petition? Why change things? the resort works and is beautiful as it is now as many holidaymakers who go year after year can testify. Also the new mayor seems quite assertive with all the changes and regulations in force and I very much doubt any petition will do any good anyway.
The one law I hope he has managed to enforce is the smoking in bars, there is nothing worse than eating a meal with someone on a nearby table blowing smoke your way and as an asthmatic I can well do without. Has there been a petition for that?

I've signed the petition to have the music on until 1pm think 2pm is a little too late and there are clubs for that. By the time you have had your meal and the entertainment to start the night is over too quick and i would welcome an extra hour listening to music and chatting. Agree with some other posters about it not being boom boom music though. I don't see why it shouldn't stay on until 1 or 2pm as long as the volume is moderate and respectful to those who want an early night and peace n quiet.

I definitely want the music on an hour or 2 later, i spend ALL NIGHT getting ready, then after 3 outfit changes and 2 showers because i got too hot changing my outfits ( ) and after having a meal its 10 ish.. and i feel like the nights go way too quick when the music goes off at 12

I think the whole question of whether bars should remain open after a specific time, is both rhetorical and somewhat paradoxical.

I think a fact that is often missed by some people is that when in Icmeler, we are in a foreign country with different values, culture and laws and as a consequence, we should respect what the national/local dictat(e)s demand of 'us' the temporary incomer.

I have no opinion either way on whether music should cease at a certain time, however I do recognise the right of the local council (Belediyesi) to decide its own interests. Icmeler is bigger than any company, organisation or individual and there are a variety of reasons why people return again and again. In my opinion, when people start trying to artificially alter the balance of what currently exists and if successful, will more than likely disadvantage one group to the cost and detriment of another. For these reasons, I'd say leave things as they are.

Whilst I agree midnight is quite early to switch off the music I think 1am or 2am for boom boom music is unacceptable to most people, after all, we have chosen Icmeler, not Marmaris.

It's OK saying that at midnight the music should be turned down but human nature being as it is, in the real world this wouldn't happen and loud music would eventually go on until the early hours. Even now, the music from loud bars can be quite intrusive - try sitting in the Kerem at 10pm. Even in Cupids, which is relatively far away from the main noise, music from other bars can be quite intrusive.

There is also competition between bars - bar A turns the volume up. Bar B turns theirs up higher. Bar A retaliates and so it goes on. The result isn't music but just noise.

I would love to sit in a bar/restaurant until the early hours chatting and listening to background music but in reality I don't think it's possible. Hence I have signed the petition against change.

Years ago we were staying in an apartment in Marmaris. Away from the hustle and bustle there was a bar playing 60's and 70's music in the background. The place was positively heaving at 2am! Some people were sitting chatting but a good many were dancing. It doesn't have to be loud to be enjoyable.

I understand your point here but this wouldn't happen if the bars were regulated by the police just as they are now, the police could still patrol up and down the street as they do now but instead of making sure that the restaurants/bars have the music off, they could ensure they have turned the music down to a suitable volume.
If places don't adhere to the rules then they can be fined etc. The police are strict on the 'music off at 12 policy' so I can't see that they would let it get out of hand.

Also, many people are saying if you want louder music we can go to Marmaris, the truth is I don't like Marmaris, I like Icmeler and I want to spend my days and evenings in Icmeler because I find the place much prettier, friendlier and I have many friends there. I find Marmaris too big and slightly tacky, however I do think an extra hour or so of music would improve the place.

When the music goes off at 12 it can kill the atmosphere, not always but sometimes. It's also a bit early to go on to pleasure and I think another hour of background music would be just right. Don't get me wrong, I dont let the lack of music ruin my night, I've sat in the bars till all hours of the morning but it would be nice to hear music for another hour or so, esp on the nights when the restaurant/bar you in is having a quiet night in terms of customers.

I agree that it can kill the atmosphere when the music is turned off. I am no killjoy and have no objection to any extension of music if it's turned down so it doesn't disturb anybody who retires early or has young children. However, who decides what a 'suitable' level is? I am just afraid that any change could be the beginning of the end.

I've been reading all the posts re the petition with a great deal of interest. It's fair to say that there are valid points on both sides.
We first visited Icmeler four years ago on a day trip and fell in love with it immediately. The following year we bought an apartment in the old village and we now spend as much of our time as possible there. We definitely don't want the beauty and magic of Icmeler to change, this idyllic spot is just about perfect in every way. However, it does seem to me that there could be some common ground to be had in all of this.
I dare say that we've all had nights in Marmaris where we've strolled along the front unable to talk to each other because the music is turned up to such a volume that it makes conversation impossible. Even some of the bars away from the front play their music extremely loud in an effort to drown out the competition. We cannot allow that to happen here. Although there are times when we are out for a drink after a meal and the company and conversation is so enjoyable that you don't want it to end and we could quite happily sit there well into the early hours of the morning chatting and drinking.
I'm all for the loud music going off at midnight but they should be able to play quieter background music till 2am. The level of music could be controlled by noise limiters which are set at an agreed level and are stipulated on each bars' licence. This could easily be checked by the police/council on their rounds at night. Any bar that has altered their limiter to increase the volume could be fined or closed.
For those that want to "party" on till the very early hours, there's always Pleasure and Eastenders nightclubs who will gladly accept your business.
