Travelling Alone

Postby NIK26 » 14 Apr 2010 21:12

Hi all
I am going to Icmeler in June and it will be the first time i have travelled on my own. It seemed like a good idea at the time but now its just 7 weeks away im starting to gt a bit nervous! I am meeting up with a friend when I get there so i wont be on my own its just the airport and the flight that im a bit worried about all stupid things going through my mind! Has anyone else travelled on their own? Any advice?

Don't worry, I have travelled alone a few times and is fine. I too felt like you the first time and the more you think about it the worse it seems, it does have its advantages especially if you are tired and don't feel like holding a conversation. I didn't have anyone there in Icmeler and that too was not a problem but I soon teamed up with another lady who didn't like being on her own. My only advice to you is on the way to the airport both ways is dont drink much as it is hard if you need the loo with your suitcase before you check in, I needed to go and I had to go in the very last cubicle with the door wide open with my case just outside the door (cannot leave case anywhere unattended plus could get stolen) hoping no-one would see me- luckily it was quiet and no-one did!
Don't worry, you will be fine and at least you will not worry if you are going to get a seat next to your travel companion or not.

hi... good advice is not to drink alcohol, i,ve gone on my own before, bottle of water ,sandwich ,newspaper, crossword. it will soon pass .seems by your address your flying from newcastle,we geordies being what we are ,will crack on to others any way. you,ll be ok ,don,t worry somebody will take you under there wing. enjoy your hols BILL PS check in ,get rid of luggage, then your freed up to do anything. at yon end ,go to loo before you get your luggage ,off the merrygoround, bye

I travelled on my own when I was 18. My parents had gone for 2 weeks & I went out for their 2nd week. Does feel a little daunting, but I was OK. Only problem I had was paying my £10 when entering the airport. The guy was a bit funny with me as the note I handed over didnt have a centenary badge on it!! It was crisp, not a mark on it! I got a bit panicky as I had no other cash on me till I met my folks, but a lady who spoke Turkish saw my predicament & came to set him straight! Apart from that, it was fine.

in october my friend contracted glandular fever about 2wks before we were due to fly and couldn't come on holiday so i was left to go on a 2 weeks holiday on my own (i'm 20) Nervous was not the word lol i was the opposite way round to you thought i wasn't bothered about the flying or the airport bit i just didn't like the thought of being in a hotel room by myself and getting ready to go out on a night by myself. It wasn't that bad though as i got ready twice as quick and went to meet my friends. Had no problems in the airport or on the flight....even bought 2 bottles of booze in the airport and another 4 in dalaman haha all in a days work :D

Nik26,
i have travelled alone 3 times 2 of which were to turkey.
Last year i was in the queue at Glasgow airport and a young girl about 19/20 ish who was also travelling alone spoke to me (i am in my 40's) we ended up sticking together until we left Dalaman airport.
We also arranged to meet up outside the airport going home,so we both had company.
Must admit it did help pass the time when you have someone to chat to. Dont worry about being on your own i would do it again anytime.
We are also going in june and cant wait to get there :D

I've travelled alone now for six years and will be going alone to Icmeler for the third time. Of the places I've been to (Tenerife, Tunisia, Menorca, Turkey, Florida) I can honestly say that Icmeler is the first place I felt completely safe to walk around at night, which I'd be reluctant to do at home! As long as you keep your wits about you, as you'd do anywhere, I'm sure you'll have a fantastic time. Be sure to tell us all about it when you get back :D
