I spoke to one of the Dreamboys staff the other day and he didn't seem too sure what was happpening, he said it may close down - it's too early to say yet!!

Dream boys has become stagnated and needs a change. I have been there for the last 5 years and it's always the same old thing. Waiters bugging you while your eating then the floor show and Yahah ponsing about with a goldfish bowl on his head. Then out comes a Birthday cake and they all sing "we love you,we love you", then Tina turner,then break dance,then.....oh sorry i fell asleep

I hope there is change at Dream Boys and a lot of the other too

ok, enough said about Dreamboys, anymore thoughts on Icmeler

I have been going to Icmeler for the past 8 years or so and it has changed a bit. Whilst I lke the new prom at the fron I miss the old style wooden bridges, which had more character.

In all my years of going the music has not really changed the same floor shows Michael Jackson etc. I know these guys work hard at it but after you have seen them a few times, it enough to drive you to drink. I avoid these places like the plague. If I hear the Cha Chas slide or Kiss Kiss one more time, aaaaaaaahhhhhhhhhhhh.
So can we get an update on the entertainment front pleeeease

Like otheres the big thing that may kill off Icmeler is the number of All inclusive, if possible this needs to be curtailed, as its driving other businesses out, bars restautants etc. With AI there jas also been an increae in the number of drunks that I have seen around the town. Some AI customers want to ensure they get their moneys worth of drink, which is their perogative. They get tanked up in the hotels then for a change make their way into town for the last few drinks much the worse for wear.

apart from that it back again in May, but looking forward I will probably try somewhere else in future years

We go all inclusive most years and its more a safety net sort of thing incase we happen to be stapped for cash thro unemployment or sickness/injury. When we're on holiday we prob go out for a meal every other night and because of the lack of entertainment that you'll get at an AI hotel we go out most nights.
What Icmeler really needs is an out and out rock bar! Or is there one and we just haven't found it?

We noticed, in May and Sept, that there were quite a few bars closed down, we also thought that the entertainment was a bit iffy in some bars, but we still enjoyed our holidays.
It would be nice if there was some live groups playing 89's and 90's music, they could still do some Turkish music as well.

as i have said in other post and was told to use this post(sorry colette) ,icmeler has changed but for the better i think , and for all inclusives killing off icmeler ,well that is no way true as it has been said in this post,many people who stay all inclusive also wonder out into icmeler as there is not alot of entertainment on there,and if there is then its the same every night so people leave anyway to wonder about, and as for youths spoiling the place thats not treue as a one point they came with family like i did and now they come on there own with there e.g partners and family.i do think many places DO need to be taken down as again pointed out before there is to much competition going on and it spoils it a bit, as long as there is still some quiet bars and restraunts for people who like me sometime having a 1 year old may want a quiet bar or restraunt some night just for a break for the young one,so all in all its changing but only for the better

Really, I can see where they're coming from, but anyone comparing Icmeler to Magaluf or Faliraki mustn't have been to either. Faliraki in particular is pretty dangerous place to be, and not just from popped up drunkard holidaymakers.

Icmeler has a long long way to go before it ends up like either, Marmaris has a long way to go before it's anything like Magaluf, that isn't to say the authorities don't need to be careful to take steps to ensure the integrity of their town - a place can slip too easily, the lure of raking in the money from selling drunks with no regard to the consequences. There are far too many "party resorts" around the med as it is.

Don't forget either, Icmeler is pretty safe to walk around after dark.....within reason. I can name many many resorts "abroad" which feel safe and have a family atmosphere after dark. There are no UK resorts I can think of, where you would be totally wise to be walking around, every single one except for the tiny ones perhaps have groups of idiots hanging around and looking for trouble or being threatening.

Some improvements I would like to see:-

Remove trees from the middle of the pavement, if the pavement is only wide enough for two people to walk side by side there should not be a tree planted in the middle of it so you have to go on the road, the road going down to the Harmony bar is one of the worst offenders however there are some other examples especially towards the old village,

The pavements are high which is understandable when it rains but the push chair ramps at the end of pavements could be improved drastically.

Bring the train back, I know there was an accident but it could be made safer.

Demolish the unfinshed hotel, do something else with the land, maybe put a water park there instead.

Police the taxis, with friends we took two seperate taxis from the same stand in Marmaris back to Icmeler, both had meters but there was a 6TL difference between the two.

Make the restaurants/hotels store their bins on their own land maybe hidden with a fence, it's a shame to see so many of the large wheeled bins overflowing with rubbish just standing on the road day in day out.

I (we) dont think this is a problem in Icmeler. We enjoy walking on the pavements of Icmeler.
If they took away all the palm trees from the paths, and lowered the kirbs, Icmeler would be just like any other MED resort.
Trees in the middle of the path is what makes Icmeler.! even in the old village .
Thats just the way it is
Mandalin restaraunt has a lemon, lime ,tree just outside in the middle of the path, and we both got free straight of the tree limes. Mmmm ( OCT 08 )..
we dont want perfect walkways (like the rest of the med ) we want Icmeler the way we like it.
It just shows the diverse needs and expectations that Icmeler gives us all.
We love It.

Hi Garry,

Trees in the middle of pavements are fine if your not in a wheel chair, pushing a pushchair or walking with a small toddler, I actually don't fall into any of these groups anymore but did when the kids were younger.

Anyway this is what makes this forum interesting we all have our own opions which I respect but still would like nice clear pavements.

Im not quite sure why they have pedestrian crossings...no-one stops for them, trees in pavements are fine if your not 6ft 5 so you get a headful of sticks and creepy crawlies when you walk under them.

I love the idea of knocking down that half finished hotel and turning it into a waterpark. I just love icmeler anyway so wouldn't be wanting to make too many changes - but it's a shame that the old village is becoming so built-up nowadays. I used to enjoy the train ride around looking at "real" Turkey - but life moves on! Regarding the trees in the middle of paths - me and my daughter always think of it like a real-life "Mario Brothers" game with all the hurdles and obstacles you get round, especially when you throw in the hassle and being greeted by everyone you know. Oh, and those pedestrian crossings - always feels like you are more of a "target" for the traffic than a safe way of crossing! Anyway, can't wait for my next trip - haven't booked it yet but will be back for sure next year.

I can't see why the trees could not have been planted in the gutter at the side of the pavement. Its not too bad if you're not very tall as you have to bend double to get under some of them they are so bad. If you want to walk safely on the pavement you are sometimes walking with a permanent stoop.
Not very disability friendly either , if you have mobility or visual problems or have a buggy.

As I said before I stick to the conclusion that AI are spoiling Icmeler. I don't think for one minute that people who stay in AI are always blind drunk, the reason I stick to my opinion is that AI are stealing the trade from the restaurants & bars etc.

I also re-iterate that , although I haven't been to Faliriki or Magaluf , if measures are not put in place to preserve the uniqueness of Icmeler, (as I think the mayor is trying to do) it will become like those 2 resorts. It may take many years to happen, but happen it will.

As someone said previously, this is a forum and everyone has a different opinion. It is good that we can listen to each other as I think many good points have been raised. I wonder if the mayor reads this forum?

i have seen changes in the last twenty plus times i,ve been .mainly all good ,not so much hassle ,out side the rest/bars etc.promenade is much improved,. i think it may have overstreched alittle with rest/bars as alot has closed or stnd empty,some pulled down even.people think open a bar and make money fast it don,t work that way its not easy!!! please no more commercializem quick fixes.softley softley catch a monkey,with thought is the best.icmeler is my holiday place twice a year,i wish it was easier to get to and the flights cheaper from newcastle the same as gatwick /manchester. less TV also for me will help,leave thesoaps at home ,reason being,7 till 9 pm in england is annoyingly 9 till 11pm turkey,just when i preffer to look at a glass of efes,at not have TV catch my attention. bill atkinson

We always go AI. As you say bikerjambo, it is a safety net. If you run out of money towards the end of the holiday, at least you are sure of your food and drink. Also agree about the entertainment in AI hotels...we too go out every night as the entertainment is not that good in our hotel, although it has improved over the last 5 years. As for a out and out rock bar...what a wonderful idea
It does saden me though to read some of the comments regarding AI visitors. It makes us sound like a load of out and out louts. As boring as this may sound, we have never been drunk whilst in Icmeler...merry maybe, but definitely not drunk. Are these people saying that B&B and SC visitors do not get drunk
We take on an average of £3,000 spending money, and this is ploughed back into the Turkish economy, on trips, dining out, and shopping. So looking at it like that, our holiday costs us approx £4,000-£5,000...probably more, so maybe an AI holiday is not as cheap as some people think:!:

I tend to agree with bikerjambo and starchild. we went A I in may and if you think that icmler AI is anything like what you get in the costa brava think again in the time we were in icmeler we never saw anyone being drunk and out of order and most of the couples in the hotel did go out to the bars regulary. Ok the resturants might suffer a bit but overall I would reckon that those people staying A I probably pay more into the turkish economy. In saying that we are going to try B&B next May and have already booked with I C R so I Shall see what my costs are for that holiday I recon overall it wil be cheaper so who is the loser the A I hotel or Icmler economy in general

I think the criticisms which have been levelled at AI in Icmeler have, in the main, not been directed at the UK market, but at those AI customers (Germans and Russians have been mentioned in particular, although I don't like to generalise) who tend to stay in their AI hotels all the time and don't frequent the other local establishments.
Certainly, on our two trips to Icmeler this year, we found it quite noticeable when stretches of the beach would empty at meal times, with the wristband wearing AI crowd suddenly vanishing!
I certainly haven't noticed crowds of drunks going around Icmeler and wholeheartedly hope that I never see the day when that does happen.
