Tips for keeping your luggage weight down?

Hi, just to let people know if they dont already. Tesco's are selling those luggage scales now for £6. They're quite small. Will weigh upto 35kg so it says.

I wouldnt like to have to lift a heavy suitcase at the end of them, but thats hubby's job. Haven't seen them much cheaper anywhere else.

They're also doing quite a lot of tiny deodorants and travel size shampoo's etc, which wouldnt last a family but handy for short stays or to tide you over till you get stuff from Tansas.

We're thinking of getting pull along holdall's to save suitcase weight as well.

After being stung couple of years ago going out from Mcr would you believe for nearly £80, we have learnt a lesson. lol.

It's worthwhile geting a holdall. I got one, and got luggage scales I weighed my old suitcase and it was nearly 5kg (it is a big one though). Holdall only weighs 2kg so really is worth while. Our local Co-op was selling them off so only cost me £12, and it's massive.

It's not the cases it's the just in case,

I think it's always going to be the toiletries which weigh down my luggage, so I'd go with the age old advice of buying this stuff at the airport.

I'd never considered buying my towels in Turkey, but I think I'll probably do that this year.

Also, this is not related to luggage weight but I always get a couple of those tiny deodorants to take in my bag when I go out in the evening. The combination of summer nights and dancing are much less embarassing and sweaty with a little can of anti perspirant!

thats a good idea for the deodrant
there is nothing worse than being sweaty when your dancing for hours
although i dont like the deodrant in turkey there is a turkish version of sure that i bought in a shop and it stung my arms so bad that i couldnt use it and it was really expensive as well

We have just returned from Icmeler. My friend ran out of deodorant and she went to the local supermarket (not Tansas). They charged herjust over 8oo lira for one, so I went to look at shampoo ,conditioner and shower gel just for curiosity and they were also quite expensive. Perhaps they would be cheaper at Tansas, I'm not sure.
Then again, if your luggage is overweight you'd probably pay more so I'm not sure which is the best option

theres a bar of soap from lush that you can wash your hair/ body in rinse undies out

They do several different types - one for blondes plus a few other general ones - they're very good and they sell little tins to store them in, in between holidays. They last a long time (ie, mine has been on 12 holidays with me - shampooing every day) as long as you let them dry out properly in between, otherwise they just go soggy. Never tried washing clothes with them but they should be good - you don't need a lot for shampoo - just wet the hair and rub the soap along it a few times - lathers really well.

I take the soap because I like it but for showering I just buy shower cream in the Tansas - much easier - and leave behind the remainder for the maid.

But to be honest each year we reduce our luggage as anything we haven't used gets knocked off the list for next year.

My wife now also takes tops and skirts that can be mixed and matched giving the impression of more outfits than taking dresses.

My best tip this year is leave your holiday clothes at the apartment in June like I did. They will all be washed and hung up for me arriving next week - cant fault it.

If you have a B&M Bargains in your area they sell the luggage scales for £1.99. I used them for the first time this year and they were spot-on.

We don't leave clothes but each year we leave, lilo's, water guns, mugs, snorkels and masks, unopened bottles of conditioner (3 litres this year), shampoo, unread books, 16" stand fan, beach sandals etc, I weighed the bag this year and not including the fan we had left 21KG if my memory serves me right. It will be back in our room for when we arrive on the 30th July next year.

Oi!!! Watch it!. I do the packing every year, and it is my OH who takes more stuff than me. Last year I had to take stuff out of my case and leave behind to enable the OH more room for his trousers. Then, to top that one...the couple we were going on holiday with had some room in their cases, and my OH actually used their spare allowance too!! So don't start on us wives!!

They defintely appeared to be strict, those in checking in on the Thomas Cook flight at Dalaman last year were getting changed for even 1KG over.

My wife and i dept dalaman airport on june 6th our cases were bang on weight allowance but was asked to weigh my hand luggage 3 kilos cost me £24 and then once through 2 coffees cost £7
moral is keep weight down and watch your turkish shopping in my hand luggage was a gift of a tin of honey from a turkish friend
