The 20kg is for your hold baggage. you get the 5kg on top for hand luggage.

The weight stated on your confirmation/ticket refers to your hold luggage.

We paid the extra to allow 20kg each when we went in July, going there was fine, but on the way back we were 2kg over and was charged £20 in Dalaman. They didn't ask if we wanted to take anything out our cases, they put them straight through and told us if we didn't pay the £20 charge we would be off-loaded from the flight! We didn't say we weren't going to pay it, I just said "how much?!" and right away we were told pay up or else.

So of course we paid the £20, but what would happen if you were skint after a fornight away? You would be in real trouble.

Think a lot depends on who you're flying with. We were on a First Choice plane out of Exeter - I was 3kg over the 20kg going out and wasn't charged, and coming back through Dalaman nobody had their hand luggage weighed at all.

You can always pop your case on the scales at a check in not being used if you're worried you're going to be over weight at least that way you have the opportunity of shifting some stuff around to avoid a charge.

can anybody who has flown to Dalaman with Monarch know what the baggage allowance is ? i was about to book and it says hold allowance 20kg,but when i went into FAQ's it confuses what it says,it implys that the 20kg includes 5kg hand baggage.have spoken to customer service who amazingly could not answer the question.

the wife will not manage on 15kg (shoe allowance only ha ha )
