I know...had to chuckle at that, I must admit. What a character he was...but for the few like him, think of the hundreds who are cut short before their time.

RIP to him, end of an era - not many WW1 vets left now

And sadly, some don't even get to live beyond their teens...
Read this, it's absolutely heartbreaking, but brings home the real effects of the war out in Afghanistan to families here at home.

Nah that link was fine

and very sad
I have a sore throat, not what I want 3 weeks before my operation
26 Jul 2009 12:59
Sorry to hear that, Colette - hope it clears up soon. Have you tried gargling with dissolvable aspirin - that sometimes helps get rid of a sore throat?
26 Jul 2009 13:05
Think it's my own fault for snoring so loud
Will try that though thanks

Saw the funeral of the great Henry Allingham on the TV today, It brings home what that generation done for this country. Many fought for this country and died doing so, this man genuinly deserved his medals.
What REALLY annoys ne is the pathetic royal family who turn up to events draped in medals, none of which they have earned in my opinion. None of them 'served' anywhere, i dont care what anyone says, they are never near the front line action (apart from a photoshoot). I hate it when nancy Andrew lays his wreath and is covered in medals.
The royal family should be ashamed, REAL men like Henry Allingham deserved his funeral and the nations respect, todays 'royal' family deserve the same fate as old Charles II
Rant over..!
30 Jul 2009 21:37
hmm know what you mean Eric - have to say though that at least Andrew saw some active service in the Falklands and Harry in the Middle East more recently
however it doesn't come near to what Henry and his comrades braved
RIP to him and the others who had the bottle to fight for us!

they were in the country, thats about it. harry was miles from any action, hate the royals, do away with them, turn buckingham palace into a homeless hostel and save us taxpayers a few bob.
31 Jul 2009 11:11
Up the revolution lol
Got to admit though, one thing about the royals - they annoy the hell out of left wingers, and for that reason alone, they're worth every penny
Well don't I have an interesting rest of my annual leave - I'm doing a megaload of washing, AND it's suddenly looking like it might rain

God bless ya Sir Bobby. RIP x

Just been speaking to our Turkish Friend Ahmet who lives near Konya. There has been an earthquake in Konya tonight measuring 4.5. He has Family in Konya and his Grandmother has been taken to hospital. All phone lines are down as is the electric.
Prayers for everyone affected by this earthquake and hopefully there wont be too much injury caused.

Oooh I am bored in work - come on all you Icmelerites, wake up and come and talk to me about
Icmeler or anything else.........
13 Sep 2009 09:58
Right you are reesy1959, You arrive in
Icmeler at 07.00 in the morning and you only have 24 hours to spend there before you will be wisked back to Wales at 07.00 the next day----- how would you spend your day?
13 Sep 2009 10:09
Easy, dump my overnight bag in the room, shove on a bikini and nip to the swimming pool, order a large cold efes and a cheese and onion sandwich. Get a little bit of colour to my white skin, then shower and pop down to all our locals and have a quick chat with friends. I would then head to probably the Majestic and have a sizzler, afterwards its another pub crawl visiting friends and catching up. Back to the
hotel around 2am, prop the bar up all night talking to the owners before returning home.
Phew - you could at least have given me 48 hours
What about you, what would you do?

Not only Patrick Swayze, but also tv chef Keith Floyd, who's also passed away. Personally, I'm mourning the loss of a good friend who's died at just 55 from cancer. Life can be so cruel sometimes...
