in defence of turkey

Hiya Everyone,
We went to a christening yesterday and whilst we were there my brother said that his daughter went to Marmaris for 2 weeks but that she came home a week early because of all the harassment and suggestive comments she was getting from the Turkish lads. Everyone was saying they were 'lech's' and they wouldn't go to Turkey so i felt i had to put the record straight. We were in a bar last year and an english girl of about 14 or 15 was trying to entice a young waiter into the ladies loo, he kept trying to politely tell her he was working and he would get into trouble but she wouldn't leave him alone, finally her dad made her go back to the hotel. She came back again but her dad followed her and made her go back. The point i was trying to make was that some girls give a bad name to all of the english girls and in turn this spoils their holiday and also gives a bad name to the turkish men as people decide then they won't go and they'll never know what they have missed. Sorry if i sound like i'm on my soap box but i can't stand unfairness

I'm pleased you felt strongly enough to raise this issue. I agree on all counts and of course some people on holiday can (to be polite) let themselves go more than at home; I doubt the father did anything different to what he'd do if his daughter acted that way at home. If only people would take some time to understand the economics of the countries they visit - and of course tourism. What may be hassle to holidaymakers is survival to Turkish people and their families- we have jobs to go back to and the Welfare State! This site is full of wonderful experiences and in the majority praise for people who show courtesy, provide exemplary service and speak several languages - let alone dealing with at least 3 currencies!

My first trip to Turkey was magical and every trip since then has added to that. I spend time talking to Turkish people as I'm very interested in them and their great pride in their country. I'm not suggesting people have to read loads before they go - but a bit of respect and an understanding of a different life wouldn't go amiss.

My last few trips have been with my daughter who gets a lot of attention - of course she loves it but is always courteous and honest - she's got some wonderful friends who keep in touch with her. I've had many conversations about not only young women but also of my age (52) and unfortunately, whether it's the holiday spirit or something else - the view about British women is out there - we can all dispel that - or some of us who care enough can.

Having been living in Icmeler now since April i cannot agree more with the comments being said. There are more and more young girls throwing themselves at the guys and it is very hard to tell exactly what age they are once they have their make-up on. So give the guys a break, though not on of the guys are angels the majority of them are. True, even some of the women who are in the middle age bracket want to sample their very own "Turkish Delight".

Yes, middle age women who only want sex for money is discusting. Poor turkish boys, and they have to send the money home for their family. uärk!

Lyn, how many guys do you know that say no when sex is handed to them on a plate whether it be Turkish or British men!!

There is so much bad publicity about Turkish men being gigilo's but when you are living in the resorts and hear the stories of women being ripped off the most common dominator is that they are all Kurdish but this is never publicised, it is always publised as Turkish.

whilst i agree that not allpeople can be judged in the same way it is important to realise that yes some turkish people can be over the top last year we had a fabulous time and found by in large that turkish men behaved well and liked a bit of banter with the girls and it was plain to see this was lighthearted .However on the day we went to the market we found polar opposites we had one occasion were two young turks entered in to a barttering contest for my 15 year old blue eyed blonde daughter, she ended up being worth 1000000 camels but only after they out bid each other to increse the price mrs simon was upset because when we suggested a job lot of 2 blue eyed blondes i was told they cancel each other out because mam is to old ,you could quite clearly see this was harmless fun and the girls knew this although the wife was annoyed with her valuation . But then we had people approaching in a crude and suggestive manner using language that i am sure the moderators ban,even to the extent to trying to push me out of the way to make physical contact not a good idea when dad is 6 feet 4.But the point i am trying to make is like everywhere thire is good and bad folk but to some people harmless banter can be seen as offensive.Now that my sermon is over i need to prepare for icmeler from july the 14th wonder if blonde daughter has went up in value with changes in exchange rate

Hi, My brother has just called and i told him i have put this on the forum. he said that although his daughter was upset, the lad she is talking about was taking her out for 3 days and after the third day he was dancing with her and put a condom in her hand as they were dancing. she told him in no uncertain terms that it was not on and he politely left her alone after that and did not harrass her, he respected her wishes. i think this could just as easily happened in our town centre after 1 night never mind 3, and by the way my niece is 20yrs old not 13 so is adult enough to handle the situation.
