We were there in July, and it was pretty warm, in fact some locals said it felt hot for them too (You don't I guess get used to it and not notice it, you get used to it and tolerate it knowing it's just for the hottest weeks of the year).
To put it all in perspective though, it isn't solidly beating down morning to night, it's cooler in the morning, then it rises, then it falls - obvious really. My point is, if you want to avoid the hottest parts, you can have a snooze in the aircon. Even then, it doesn't really feel as hot as the temp guages suggest.
