Money saving tactics...

03 Aug 2009 20:57

Hi all,
Just over 6 weeks to go before we get back :D

With the economic climate being what it is, and the fact that people want to ensure their money goes as far as possible, we thought we would share some of our money saving tactics. If you have any of your own, please feel free to share them.

Can i ask that we try 8) and keep it sensible.... or as sensible as it gets here :D

1. Buy a cheap sandwich toaster from argos (£5 ish) and get your cheese/meat from tansas - viola you've got your lunch sorted... Also Breakfast from time to time.
2. Same thing as above food wise, make some butties before you fly back - we all know about the daylight robbery in Dalaman, and this way you can tuck in to some decent food in the airport when other people are being ripped off.
3. Get some duty free on the way out, so can have a drink before you go out. Also the price of beer in tansas is very reasonable, so if you have a fridge....
4. Mudurnu chicken has always been good to get a cooked chicken from, to strip for sandwiches etc.
5. If you've got children, why pay for an airplane meal that they're probably not going to eat? For less money you can nip down to your nearest Asda etc. before you go and get your chicken nuggets etc.
6. Again for kids, Tansas do sachets of powder that when you add your botteld water, you have cordial like at home. Saves giving them pop all the time and costs buttons.
7. If you dont have a travel kettle, or their isnt a kettle in your room then for a couple of quid you can pick one up in a electical shop at the back of Marmaris bazaar.
8. It would do you no harm to take a trip to one of the big supermarkets in marmaris to stock up when you first get there - could save you a fortune.

Just a few things that have helped us in the past.

ooohh i like the sound of them sachets,i dont suppose you can remember what there called? my little girl gets bit fed up of water all the time and i hate her having fizzy pop, although i do relent a little as we on holiday,so those sachets sound ideal and cheap which is always a bonus!!! :D

The drink is called Tang and they do different flavours.
It tastes a bit like sherbert though or you could always buy fruit juice its not that expensive.
Murdurnu Chicken has become Alin's Grill.

Dont buy fruit from the Tansas and certainly not from the beach sellers. There is a fruit shop opposite Tansas near the dentist, you can buy all you want for pennies!

That's why I mentioned it tastes like sherbert!

We took some Robinson squash last year put it in a hard bodied suitcase. Plus butter, block of cheese, marmite. Toaster bags are brill if your apt has a toaster.

Solid food you can put in hand luggage as well so doesnt have to go in suitcase.

those lunchables are quite good especially if you get them on a special offer. dinky pies and things like that ok for on plane.

Its harder to cater when going home though, cos the sliced bread is that bimbo stuff and its dry. Usually the kids end up with a huge bag of cheetos to eat as well.

We also ate at the kebab cafe place just down from Champagne Bar, it cost 60 lira for 6 of us for kebabs / burger with couple portions of chips with a soft drink each as well, so if we overspent the day before we saved by going there. and the kebabs were to die for.

i took with me some bottles of dilute pop from tesco, double concentrated, put it in plastic bag and then in a lightweight lunch box, and into the case.... :D

i found we spent more this year, and when ordering drinks in the venice restaurant, say you want small, otherwise they gave us all large drinks, so 4 fanta lemons ended up costing the equiverlant of £12 :D

well tang is off the menu then,id never thought of taking squash with me,too scared of it leaking over my clothes,i dont suppose anyone would know if it would be possible to buy it at the airport so could then put it in hand luggage? if not she'll be sticking to water and the occasional sip of fanta!!

I always take 4 bottles of Robinsons low sugar squash that you dilute, put them in plastic bags and wrap separately in towels. They haven't broken so far. 8)

Hi there

You can buy diluting juice in resort but it is quite hard to come by. Don't get the pale lemon coloured one from tansas as it tastes horrible. They do one which is a sort of lemony green colour if that makes sense and it is delicious. Some of the small supermarkets do it too but as I said you have to hunt around.
