Just phoned our annual insurance provider as their book clearly states no epedemic or pandemics are covered. It was very reassuring to be told that they have completely reversed that rule and will now cover all situations. Anyone one else with private insurance who is not sure, it is worth a phone call to put your mind at rest.

Did you ask for written confirmation just in case they decide to reverse the other way, I would ask for at least an email as a precaution epecially as your policy clearly stated no pandemics.

We rang and again was told that we were definitely covered. They would not give us it in writing but told us to check on the web site. Couldn't find anything about it but am satisfied and we noted the time and who we spoke to. On the same lines have been advised by the local practice nurse to take paracetemol before the journey so that it keeps your temperature down especially as you go thro the airport.

Hi all - especially Colette,

I've got this year's travel insurance with Natwest and after a painful day of hanging for over 10 minutes at a time in the queue, finally managed to get through! We're covered for the pandemic - if we have to cancel the holiday, need to come back early and also if we have to stay longer because of swine flu. They also confirmed all expenses, i.e. drug fees for treatment of swine flu will be reimbursed.

My mind's at ease now.
