Holiday Insurance *IMPORTANT*

Postby Colette » 24 Jul 2009 11:57

As posted by Tinkerbelle in the general advice forum, I have copied it over as she makes a very good point, I heard this on tv the other day so can confirm she is correct.

Can I remind all to check that their travel insurance does not have pandemic exclusion, some policies have this and it is possible that if you or any of your travelling family get it you may not be covered. If it has got it you need to ring and check as some firms are making exceptions and if it's not covered you may need to get new insurance at least two weeks before you go to cover the money spent.

Rang them today - Good News !! they decided a couple of days ago that all their coverage would contain pandemic cover from start to finish

Hi Viking pete

Our travel insurance is covered by hubby's package with the Royal Bank. Is that who you're with?

One of my work colleagues should of been travelling last week, I think they were going to Tunisia, her friend got swine flu and her insurance would not refund the money they lost as Swine Flu wasn't included. This was the insurance that Thomas Crook sold them, so saya alot for TC doesn't it.

TC use A*A who caused us a lot of grief with a medical cancellation. I would never use A*A again.

I'll have to double check mine as it's a plat account so the terms may be slightly different

**on a different tack, but still re what you're actually covered for, only found out by chance last year that mine also covers family members on hols regardless of whether I'm with them!!! so even more savings for me yey

Sod it looks like the annual one we got last year for this years two trips doesn`t so will need to have a look about and if the swine flu keeps getting worse (and I find the money once holiday is paid for) possibly need to get a new travel insurance :(

yep we're covered for swine flu on my Lloyds TSB Platinum account insurance - for any cancellation if we get it beforehand or for medical fees if we get it while away

Andrea M. If you have confirmed that it is not covered ask them how much to add it on rather than wasting what cover you have . Could save a packet.

Thanks for this thread it made me ring my company up.

I have the free travel insurance via the RBS platinum account where you get free yearly travel. They confirmed that we're covered for any cancellations due to things like swine flu and medical expenses you need. But if they wont let you board at either home or foreign airport you have to get something in writing off the airline for proof.

Me thinks that's were any probs may lie. Here my insuarance said a note off the doctor. I pointed out you can't go to the docs and they said ring flu line and get a ref number that gets you the tamiflu that's good enough.
