Hi All,

First time in Icmeler for me this year (in May) and absolutely loved it - booking my flights back this week for 2 weeks from 26th Sept and cant wait.

Just have a wee question tho - why are there no female staff working in the bars? Im curious cos I didnt see any (even non-turkish women)

Cheers

Try the Diva Bar, a lovely turkish girl, who has worked there for years, I always like to chat to her. and also a russian girl who had just started working there in May when I was there, you're right though, not many girls working in the bars, it's unusual to see. Just their culture I think.

Thanks Trish.

I wondered more why we dont have lots of british girls out there working in the bars - or does that go on in Marmaris more?

Hi

I think you will find its very hard for the British girls to get work permits so thats why you dont see them

Employment is prohibited even if you are there on a tourist visa and I am sure the police will cause enough trouble for the locals if they find out they are working there.
I also think that there isn't enough work for the Turkish/Kurdish people and unlike us they don't get any money from the government if they don't have work.

I like to see turkish/ kurdish people working in the bars, hotels, restuarants etc in resorts, its more authentic, and we all love them for their many qualities as genuine nice people, it's their country,( and without getting political) as commented, they need the income as they get no help from anywhere else if they are unemployed. British girls and indeed other nationalities seem to get work as reps for travel companies, which strikes a nice balance, as we also appreciate the work they do for us as tourists too. Especially our ICR gang :D

Turkish women run the MAGIC GARDEN bar which is a quieter place to sit to enjoy your drink and conversation.Viewed from the outside it appears small and nothing but once inside it's like entering a Tardis-bigger than you thought.Enjoy :D :D :D

Couldn't agree more with you sue.c it is to die for as is their pate, my favourite meal on the menu. Rose and the lads always give you a warm welcome but then again doesn't most places in Icmeler.

When we were at Golmar beach last year, there was a lovely young Turkish girl worked in the restaurant and bar. Her English wasn't very good and to start with she was very quiet, but by the end of our two weeks, she was really getting the hang of us scots!

Back there three weeks time, so hopefully she will still be there. Like a lot of people I had noticed the lack of female waitresses, so it was a welcome change to see her.

the reason why you dont see many females working in the bar is cause its illegal for any foreign people to gain employment whilst in the country on a tourist visa
if they want to work they need to apply for a work permit and must prove that the job they want to do is not needed by a turk
so very hard to prove that waiting jobs are not needed
also many females are still told to stay at home and play the old fashioned task of housewife and things like that (no offence to anyone)
or the females are at univeristy cause there is many more girls able to go nowadays
