25 May 2009 09:35

forgot to mention yesterday when we went to dalaman airport we took 4 small bottles of water through ,nothing was said and we had drunk them by the time we got to the gate so dont know if you can go past there with it

Thanks for that, I think I will be risking taking the usual salad baguette and water with me too.

my inlaws have just got back said it was really expencive they took sandwiches and water and crisps no one stopped them

We bought water off the rep on the bus to the ariport, no problem taking it through both security checks, very few people I met out there were aware of any new regulations and the staff at Dalaman, if aware, are certainly not doing anything different from last year.

i just went onto the dalaman airport website and a pop up came up notifying me of the new liquid restrictions which it didnt do before
maybe they are planning to enforce them soon just as the peak of the season is about to start
fingers crossed they arent though :)

we came back last tuesday and we were not stopped at all for having any water etc with us

Took water right through the airport onto the plane with no problems at all on Saturday night/Sunday morning - did ask me if it was a dvd player in my hand luggage nothing mentioned about a bottle :? Looks like a ploy to get us to spend more money at the airport (although am always guilty of having fries  ) it was 4.50 Lira for a wee bottle of water from MacD's

I might be wrong but thought the new rules on liquids come into force in Dalaman airport on the 1st July this year.

Came back last night no restrictions you could take water through. Dalaman was a nightmare last night big queues everywhere. Just had enough time to spend 10 minutes in duty free before we were boarding. At least we were not around along enough to have to spend any money

26 May 2009 19:45

yeah sandyglen you were lucky not to have to spend any money
good the liquid restrictions havent come into place yet though :)

We came back last year and got stuck in a queue for checking in for about 2.5 hours (tommy 2 fingers was typing, I did suggest my wife could check in the whole plane in about 30 mins).
My children were complaining of starvation so we brought 4 small rolls and 3 small pots of p***gles £35 - next tims the kids starve!!!

Came back yesterday, took 4 bootles of water and 4 barguettes in a carrier bag, no problems at entrance, then took them into the gate again no problems, most people had some sort of food with them, must say the girl at the food shop in the gate looked very upset as no one was buying anything,

30 May 2009 10:35

well im not surprised no one was buying anything from the girl as the prices are so high that no one wants to buy anything
even if they lowered the prices a little they would get so much more sales

It's not so much the money for me it's the principles at how they can warrant such high markups it's just cheeky. I know britsh airports charge a little bit more but our airports are very reasonable compared to Dalaman.

I agree with Steve if everyone refused to buy at these prices it will force them to reduce, also ONUR AIR are asking £10 for a sandwich and small can of beer. John and Mary

You'd think the penny would be starting to drop by now, wouldn't you? If few people are buying food or drink, you would think questions would be getting asked somewhere and they'd find out why. Surely better to reduce the prices and encourage more people to buy stuff - or am I just being too logical here?

30 May 2009 12:47

I agree with you Blondie & John. You'd think they would drop there prices, surely the rent in the airport can't be so hight they have to charge these prices to cover there cost, I think it comes down to pure greed.

As for Onur air charging £10 for a sandwich and a small beer is reidiculous, I flew with easyjet in Decemeber to Alicante they gave us a £1 off voucher at check in but even without that it wasnt that expensive. Got a hot bacon baguette and a orange juice or hot drink for £5, so thought that was really good.

I would rather pay for a airline meal where I can as it does work out cheaper than the airlines only offering sandwiches.
