Football shirts......

Postby PMC » 26 May 2009 15:37

Quite a bizarre question is this, but I thought it better safe to ask;

Are there any football shirts that the local people of Icmeler would take offence to? ie Man Utd / Leeds / Celtic etc etc

I don't think so - most of the locals we found were quite clued up about all the different teams. You will see locals wearing one shirt one day and another the next. Any banter about rival teams is generally taken in good spirit, we found. My son was amazed - and delighted - when on our first visit to Icmeler, his Hearts top was not only recognised, but greeted warmly in several of the bars and restaurants.

PS: Mind you, given that there is now a new LFC (Liverpool) themed bar open in Icmeler this season, I might be a wee bit wary about venturing in there wearing certain team's shirts! :lol:

not in my experience.......most of the guys working in the bars restaurants will tell you that is their favourite team (whatever strip you're wearing! :lol: )

they usually use it as an ice-breaker to start conversation or to try to tempt you into their shop/pub/restaurant :D

They also love a laugh and a bit of banter if you wear a Turkish football shirt, we sometimes have a 'Galatasaray night' and we get some good laughs and cheers, obviously from the Galatasaray fans, but even the Fenerbahce fans try to get you into their pubs to convert you to their teams and buy some drinks :lol:

Hi, Never had any problems with our Forest shirts on, last August we were there for the start of the season and easily found a bar which searched all or their tv chanels just to find the Forest match for us, and even refused to turn it over until the match had finished even though loads of man u fans had arrived to see the charity shield match, they missed the first 10 mins. The turkish love any football

Got a felling that the Mags & Smogmonsters tops will be scarse this year, oh how we laughed. Only one down side we need to find 8 point from elseware next year.
