tips in bars

31 May 2006 18:44

can anyone tell us what the going rate for tips is? we visit quite a few bars and we may only have one drink but last year we spent a lot on tips.
don't want to be mean but is it only when you have a meal that you tip or is it every place you go into regardless of having a meal or not.
could someone please answer this question about turkish etiquette :?:

Hi skilly

If i've had a good meal in a restaurant I would normally tip 10% of the bill, so if it's 100 lira then 10 lira is sufficient.

If I'm just paying for drinks in a bar I would still leave a few lira tip - depends how much you've spent though (and how drunk you are I suppose  )

I just feel that the guys working in the resorts don't earn much money for working so long and hard in that heat - and I know all tips are very gratefully received.

All tips are put into a "tip box" normally kept behind the bar, which is opened once a week and the tips shared out between all staff.

Hope this helps

Hi I tip the same as mazz I think they all deserve their tips they work so hard and also entertain you at the same time.

We tend to drink alot in our bar which is the "Sports Bar at the Devamli" and we tip them well, at the end of the two weeks they bought us a coffee with their tips because we had tipped them so well (bless them)! They do not earn much and as mazz said they really do appreciate what you do tip. :) Don't be mean a little to us is a lot to them.
