Advice about taking water and soft drinks to the airport looks to be redundant.

I suppose it was bound to come in at some point, better make sure we have plenty of spends left at the end of the holiday to be able to buy drinks at Dalaman Airport

This is indeed bad news, looks like I will have to apply for a bank loan to be able to buy stuff at dalaman

What made them change their minds after all this time

looks like we'll all be packing our iced water in 1L bags full of 10 x bottles of water with 100ml in each
wondered how long it'd take them to catch on that we bulk buy to avoid their extortionate prices grrrrrrrrrrrr

It would surprise me if Dalaman put prices up even more, they have ya nuts firmly in hand on this one....

i can see myself faking a faint mid airport due to 'dehydration' and get a freebie!

I don't have a problem with this, at Dalaman the first check is entering the airport which won't check for drinks as the rules say you can pack liquids in the hold luggage, the next check is at the gate when you are xrayed again, at this point in time I don't mind not having any liquids as my reason is to have drinks at the airport and not pay the high prices while waiting for the gate to open, once at the gate we are about to board so no issues.

Great thinking dksbbs, thats exactly what we'll do, stuff paying those prices at the airport, would rather dry up first. One bottle on the top of the suitcase to be taken out just before you book in and you have it until the next x ray at the gate!!!!

Hi

the only problem with this is they might take your bottles off you at passport control as they do at Manchester you might get away with putting in your hand luggage before going through passport control
The other thing the might do is move the first set of xray machines to behind passport control like they are at UK airports

I wouldn't bet on it Erik .... last year, my good lady collapsed inside the terminal building. On the way to the ER, the nurse was taking her pulse while simultaneously asking me "You pay won hunder aity leera for treatment.... I take you to cash machine"!!!

On the final bill it read (amongst other things) ... 1 Litre 'Su'.... 10 Lira!

Have a nice day!

Just an update as have not long been back.

You CAN take liquids through the first lot of x-ray machines at Dalaman but they WILL take any liquids from you as you go through to the boarding gate.

Quite funny to see those who couldn't understand the logic of why they'd got so far with their water only to have it taken from them at the last minute.

I have to say that the system in Dlaman is much better than at UK airports.

yeah if they go by the other airports in turkey then it will only be the final security checks before you proceed into your gate that the liquid restrictons will apply to
when you get scanned inside the door there will be nothing i hope

That is not to bad then. I don't mind throwing it away before I board the plane as Airline inflight drink prices are still cheaper then Dalaman airport.

We have just come back from Antalya airport, and that is exactly what happened. At the first check point we were allowed to take our drinks through but what had not been drunk by the second check point was taken off us, although it must be said that there were four of us with hand luggage each and when we got through one of us discovered in the fuss that was made to search our bags two bottles had got through, so, so much for the rule in the first place, cause a litle confusion and you may find you still have a drink in the waiting area before boarding!!
Another thing we have noticed, especially on the Turkish airlines, the prices are now creeping up.

what happens to the duty free that you buy, last year we took water on to the aircraft with us ,the reason people were leaving water at the boarding gate was there own choice no bags were being searched and bottles were being left by choice for some unknown reason

duty free is in a duty free bag so they will know where its been bought from and it must not be opened before boarding
at antalya last october they were taking bottles of water off people and being very strict with the regulations
no one was allowed through into the gate with an liquids especially water even if they were bought within the airport
a lot of people tried to argue but the turkish authorities told them if you want the liquids you dont fly
