Traditional pancake house

Postby Jozzyd » 13 Feb 2009 12:18

Does anyone know if there are any traditional pancake houses in Icmeler please. We have had them before in another part of Turkey and they are delicious

I've been going for the last fifteen years but I don't think I have ever seen one. However, most of the restaurants will offer pancakes on their menu as a dessert.

If you want a treat call in to Cafe Rose. Her pancakes are 'to die for'. Just ask her to make you one with ice cream and honey.

There is a little shack on the main road almost opposite Tansas, when she is open, they are quite nice but expensive, there is a restaurant at the end of the walkway going away from the ICR office on the right hand corner, Donna knows the name of this one so she will probably let you know. (over to you Donna) Last October we found a little place on the prom, going out of Icmeler towards the Lagunda Hotel. where there was a stall at the front with a little lad selling ices and drinks and the old lady was at the side of him. Hope this helps.

we've been there too and yes they are divine!!
we usually order a couple at a time and keep the orders going until we've had enough
dirt cheap and the coldest beer we've ever come across in Icmeler - a lot of locals eat there too and that's always a good sign in my book

last year though, they'd really shortened the opening hours so we missed paying a visit

here's hoping they extend them again this year

Think it is Donna, its the place you and Jean went for lunch before we arrived in October. It has Gozleme 3 lira on the board outside on the pavement.

Have had them all over but the best one I've ever had was in the old Marmaris market and was goats cheese and spinach and I asked for a spicy one and boy it was.

we had some pancakes made for us on a village tour which were spinach and cheese, but they werent pancakes, they were a dough and were called gozleme
Peynirli Gözleme (Gözleme with Cheese)

Ingredients

Flour 5 ½ cups
Oil ½ cup 110 grams
Salt 1 ¼ tablespoons
Margarine 1/3 cup 65 grams
Dry yeast ¾ tablespoon
Sugar 1 teaspoon
Water (warm) ½ cup
White cheese - 500 grams
Parsley 2 bunches
Cheese - 500 grams
Recipe Info
Category: Pastries
Rating: 4
Print Recipe

Directions

Servings: 10

Sift the flour into a large dish and reserve 1 cup. Add 1 1/4 tablespoon salt to the remaining flour, mix and make a whole in the center. Blend the yeast and sugar with ¼ cup water, pour into the hole and sprinkle with some flour. Leave in a warm environment for about 10 minutes to allow the yeast to rise. Add the remaining water gradually and make a soft dough. Knead for five minutes until it no longer sticks to hand, and leave to rise for an hour keeping the warm temperature stable. Crush the cheese, wash, separate and finely chop the parsley and add to the cheese, mix and divide into ten portions. Put flour on hands and divide the dough into ten pieces forming them into balls. Use the remaining flour and roll out each ball until half a millimeter thick. Brush with oil. Fold opposite sides of the round pastry together, bringing edges together at the center. Spread cheese filling over half of the pastry. Fold 1 cm. of he round edge of the side with the cheese over the filling and cover the filling with the other half, shaping the round pastry into a rectangle. Press the the edges to seal lightly. Heat griddle, grease with margarine and place the gözleme. When the first side is browned, grease and flip the other side and brown.
