Hi peejay

I flew home from Dalaman this morning. I was talking to one of the check-in guys about the new terminal while I was waiting to be called to board the plane and he said they didn't know when it would be open but it hopefully wouldn't be too much longer now. From the outside it looks complete though and it's big!

He was saying how much quicker it's going to be to get through as there will be 70-odd check-in desks and everthing will be computerised, whereas now they're still having to do everyting by hand.

Bet the drinks won't be any cheaper in the new terminal though.... I paid £3.50 for a black coffee this morning (I don't normally pay these prices, but had been up all night so needed the caffine fix!)

The airport will be open by mid June or by July the latest. No subsiding and definitely not 18 more months. There must have been a misunderstanding.

Do you think the check in guys will be able to crack a smile now, when we went last year they were very miserable so different to the people in the resorts. I must admit the people in the duty free shops were very friendly

I've got to agree clare.

The airport staff, duty free staff apart (for obvious reasons!!) are a right miserable bunch. I always think it must be quite daunting for the first time visitor to Turkey when they are confronted by this lot, but thankfully by the time you reach Icmeler you see how lovely the people in resort actually are.

Clare

I think I'd be miserable sitting there all day stamping passports and looking at us Brits passing through, knowing that we are about to have 2 weeks soaking up all of that hot Turkish sun, going on all of those great trips and sleeping in for as long (or as short) as you want !!!!
July 14th, I'll say Hi to them for you.. :D

Last year the passport man snatched mine off me, so I asked him if had any manners and was always so rude, but he just looked at me

Needless to say I ran as fast as I could.

Well I managed to find a right happy chappy!

When I landed at Dalaman at 3.30 in the morning I handed my passport over to get the entry stamp and the guy looked at my collection of 10 visas smiled a huge smile and said to me: "you Turkish" then laughed.... so they're not all miserable!

Mazz you are one lucky guy to get a smile. My kids went up to the box where they sit, all happy and excited they both stood in front of him to he could check their photos and he just grunted at them. I wanted to say smile does not cost you anything but did not want to get thrown out before I had the chance to check Turkey out. :o

2 years ago we went to pay our £10 and the chap behind the desk checked through our passports and started actually laughing! He told us that the signature on our visa the year before was his - he even shook our hand and said welcome back!

Last year we had the same chap and he was so excited he was telling the other chaps collecting the visa money - didn't let us off the tenner though!

Get 2x 1 litre bottles of vodka or bacardi in the airport UK for about £18 for 2 as its gone up this year.

I think superkings were cheap in UK if you bout them by the 1,000 box or 10-11 quid at Dalaman.
