Just a Thought !!

Hi All
Now that the forum is very quite, and everyone is "sulking"
I would like to cast our thoughts back to the middle of this season gone by. When we were all on full flow in the "winging" department,Yes I did my share
Quite a few of our members were considering going elsewhere due to various reasons, which isnt a problem or indeed any of our buisness
But one of the main reasons quoted was how dear Icmeler had become, and that Turkey was becoming "expensive" some even suggesting that they would not be coming back in the forseeable future
I was wondering, has anyone booked elsewhere in the "euro zone" and indeed found it cheaper or will they be joining me and others on our annual,- winge- :, Here in our little piece of heaven
All this said with a bit of tongue in cheek
But I do wonder.

Best Regards to you all.
Merry Christmas and a Good New Year.

As Salford Steve said in another topic even Benidorm is now expensive but I found that out when I went in February for a short break and drinks were just on £10 for 2 with mixers.

I went back the other week and in some bars was paying well more than that with the current exchange rate.

Most of the bars and big places in bar street and surrounding areas were closed because people were just not there in the numbers that they used to be.

You could still get a pint for 1 euro in bars if you liked to sit in a place with plastic deck chairs and tables and the beer was not the best.

If Benidorm is expensive then other areas of the euro zone must also be.

Icmeler is cheap compared I tell you and one thing you do not get in other countries is the vast choice of different food on offer in Icmeler restaurants

I rest my case

Hi Peli

As I said in an early Post I just got back from Benidorm yesterday. It is getting very expensive. You don't think of it when you're away, but thinking back now. I was paying in some bars 12 euros for a Malibu & Coke and a Martini & Tonic so thats nearly £11 I wouldn't pay that back here. Lager is still relatively cheao but about on par with Weatherspoons pubs here really. If you want a nice restraunt expect to pay the same as you would in this country.

Benidorm was dead and the business owners we know over there who have had many good years are really fearing for there future. They say they only way to get people there is to reduce prices however there suppliers are still charging them the same as they always have so it's difficult to reduce prices.

Just read that back again, and I agree with you about the food in Icmeler. We stay in the old town, and don;t really venture to the new town. There are only really now 2 decent restraunts in the old town, unless you want to go to the Spanish Tapas bars. The menu in those 2 restraunts is exactly the same, it's a set menu with a choice of about 5 dishes for each course, and as I said they both have the same selection. So Icmeler still wins on food and price for me.

I am thinking -no-- hoping that we will see a lot of new visitors to "Our Town" due to the Euro-Stirling farce.
We certainly need it to genarate the towns economy, and then they can do away with --"Mr Jackson"

I agree with you Peli.

Lets hope the cleintell in Icmeler stays the same and we don't get typical english people that once went to Spain don't venture into our little gem of a town.

Our nephew has just come back from Fuerteventura. He said that there was a Netto store there and they were charging £6 for a bottle of Magners cider.

I also agree with Steve about people coming to Icmeler instead of Spain just for the cheaper booze, it will really spoil our haven.
Perhaps we should not keep advertising how good it is and how cheap the drinks are to keep the wrong type of holidaymaker away but on the other hand the locals need the custom :?

Our nephew also told us that he was glad to come home because on the last 2 days 2 large groups arrived and were sat at opposite ends of the pool. They were throwing the reps in the pool and if that wasn't bad enough they threw bottles of beer in also despite children playing in the pool.
The pool attendant tried to stop them but they took not a blind bit of notice

Hi Skilly
You and Steve are probably right in regard to atracting the "Chatsworh estate" brigade,
I have been viewing the other forums on H T and the general talk is the euro exchange, and a lot of people are concidering Turkey, Egypt etc so I am expecting more people here in 2009. hopefully these are genuine respectful folk, indeed they must be, to be involved in their own forums.
But yes I think we have that worry, let us hope that the council and police will be on top of the game, and back the bar/restraunt owners and staff, up very quickly and severly, if they need to approach these clowns.
I think we all know that our hosts and friends are very sincere and lovely people who wont tolerate scumbag behavour, and I feel sure they can "turn it on" if need be, to sort the riff-raff out.
Some how though I think we will escape the "wild feral hords", As we havnt got , sling-shots, allnighters, etc----YET!!

Lets hope they find somewhere else to go.

Maybe they may think there isn't enough to do in Icmeler. I mean there is loads to for respectable folk like us but some scum bags may find it boreing as they prob want to si and watch a Roy Chubby Brown tribute act or something like that. Call me a snob if you like...lol

The hospitality in Icmeler is one of the many things which keep us coming back time and again - even if it worked out dearer than Spain etc, we'd much rather spend our money in Icmeler where good manners etc are still so evident

like the rest of you, we keep our fingers crossed that the "Chatsworth" crew won't descend, but there are more than enough decent folk to make up for them

I think it's inevitable that Icmeler will be considerably dearer next year simply due to the exchange rate, but there's always the Pide places to eat - so we'll just cut back a bit on our spends, but we'll be there for sure........can't wait

I agree Fanny, I am not bothered if Turkey becomes dearer as it is inevitable, but I will still go :)

I spoke before about the hol my nephew recently came back from but he has also been to Magaluf in the past.

He said when they were going back to their hotel at 1.30am in the morning it was nothing to find drunken revellers lying on the ground, people taking their clothes off because they were so bladdered.

He said he went to one bar and girls (holiday makers) were dancing on tables and all the lads were lining up against the tables and the girls were pouring shots down the lads throats as they were dancing.

Its not the kind of night out that I want on holiday, I'm far from miserable but I think it can go too far when young people drink more than they can handle and I dread icmeler becoming like that

You never know the Lira could be up tp 2.40 by next year with a abit of luck. The other day in the paper the exchange rate over here was 2.29 so you would prob get it for 2.40 in resort.

I normally go to Fuengirola in February for a week and in the past have found the prices there to be very cheap. We normally go a chinese restaurant and for starters main course desert and coffee it was only 5.5 euro. Food quality and portions were excellent and even drink prices were not that bad either. I appreciate that the pound has dived against the euro and that it will be more expensive.

A couple of things may put people off Icmeler this year, the credit crunch, I dont think that as many people will go on holiday abroad and this will affect all resorts not just Turkish ones

Second, the cost of flight to Turkey still seems very high in many cases about £300 plus. Accomadation however is very well priced, so it will be interesting to see how things go.

Me, i got an excellent deal to go to Icmeler in May and in fact I am paying almost £150 less than I did for the same holiday I had in September/October this year

Well, we will be back whether it's dearer or not..... I can't think of a nicer place to be. We feel totally at home there and have already booked for next year... cheaper than we paid this... not sure how we manage it, but we get a better deal each year......soon they'll be paying us to go!!! :D

Chinese restaurants in Spain in one word are CRAP

Great to get menu del dayu or o at 5-6 euros with free bottle or half of wine but I have done it and its crap and if its your cup of tea then enjoy it but you cannot compare that with food in Turkey and I will go as far to say even in Romania the food is better ( I think its the worst food).

You either like going to Turkey for the atmosphere or you like 1 euro crap beer in a crap bar with deck chairs, lots of pink and purple track suits and lots of smoke in your face and idiots.
