with rising fuel costs and the credit crunch i would imagine lots of smaller companies must be feeling the pinch.

leaves the big companies to keep their inflated prices

Hi Eric
That was one of the questions raised earlier on 5 live,
Due to XL being a big lump of the market.

"The expert", said that the surviving companies could become stronger and ride out "the storm"!!

My interpritation of that is.
They can rip us off easier due to less competition/opposition
Its heading towards a."monopoly"

Feefee
He also said that these companies will be a "Lot Safer" !!
Yeh they will be when they double the prices

The day of the "cheapie", I think may have gone for ever.

Instead of blaming the holiday companies try looking at the governments rip off on Fuel Tax,and why did not the government do something they were quick enough to jump in when Northern Rock was in trouble to the tune of 30 odd billion pounds.

We fly to Dalaman next Friday with FCA and return with Onur Air, hopefully we are ok. Our friends who are coming with us had booked with xl. Fortunately they booked with credit card and are covered, and we found a T ***** C flight at 7am this morning which almost exactly matched their previous flight times for a total of £535 for two people, so their holiday is safe as hotel was booked separately.

HOWEVER; just for curiosity I have just checked flight availability, and guess what?! T******C have increased the price for the exact same flights to £1000.96!!!! I don't think we can blame the government or fuel prices for that, just pure greed and taking advantage of people in a vulnerable situation! Monopoly as Peli says is on the way, and this is a perfect example of what some companies will do with this power!

Hi Peli, you're so right, I'm just so glad that we were on the ball and booked at 7am before THE MONSTER AWOKE, as you say they must be loving this, and I feel so sorry for anybody who has suffered from loss of flights and jobs from XL aswell as those trying to rectify the situation by having to turn to the few alternative companies left waiting to rob them of their hard earned cash. They ought to be ashamed of themselves, but I doubt very much that they are.

Hi All
Looking at this from a laymans point of view, and certainly not understanding the internals of this buisness.
My thought on this, is that if you take, say 15%ish, of something very lucrative away, then surely 15% should take its place more or less immeadiatly.
What or Who!!, is going to replace the 20odd planes and 1000s of staff ???
Becouse as we all know, flights etc are bad enough to find , at the best of times
It just does not add up to me !!!

I don't think there are many more left to go under now. We are left with no choice now who we go on holiday with, only really the 2 greedy giants left.

Onur air are very competetive. I know a lot of people book a package with them, but then diy the hotels/apartment. Works out cheaper sometimes.
