weighing luggage

Last year we packed our cases the day before we flew and decided to weigh them on the bathroom scales. What a nightmare!
Previously my husband had always just lifted them and gauged whether they were ok.
But last year we tried the scales
It was horrible!

I had carefully put all my outfits in my case and breathed a sigh of relief. When we weighed the cases they were over so I took some out, then it was weighing wrong again.
I ended up throwing clothes out of the case in a temper

When we finally got to the airport I think our cases only weighed about 16 kg each.
I spent all my holiday trying to do a Trinny & Susannah with my minimilist wardrobe

This year we have bought fishing scales from Aldi and they are brilliant
Spot on every time, stopped a load of stress.
I just wondered what other forum members did about knowing the weight of their luggage.

Oh, and when my husband went to get these scales there was another bloke buying some. he said "I'm not getting ripped off at the airport again.
There was a little old couple in the queue at the airport and they were about 12stones between the both of them. they were told their cases were overweight so they turned round, looked at the two 6 foot 4in blokes at the back of them and said are they not overweight?"

I thought it was funny and there was some good reasoning there

I too use the bathroom scales, I change it from imperial to metric and its spot on. I was thinking about getting the fishing scales to weigh the cases for the return journey, but the Hotel we stayed in June this year had a set of scales for the customers to weigh their cases

When I weighed mine and seen they were under, I dashed down to the Canal and bought some more towels -

Skilly, you and me both...! My OH totters around on the bathroom scales balancing the bag on his head, and then makes me take some of my clothes out....in May, he told me we were too near the limit so I took some shoes out, but he told me when we got back he only did that so we wouldn't be borderline, and in fact, we were about 4kg under the shoes are going back in this time

we have just bought a set of fishing scales from aldi for £3.99 the weigh upto 22kg so just right for weighing cases put the hook onto case handle and lift up and get your reading

They're ideal aren't they and very accurate. We had people from our apartments coming to our room before they left for the airport to weigh their cases.

im useing the bathroom ones and just thinking i might be better going to aldi

Weigh scales are only as accurate as how you set the "fine tuning up"

I should imagine a fisherman sets his scales wieghing 1kg heavier!

Whilst a women will have the bathroom scales set 1kg lighter!!!

We used the fishing scales (ebay) in May and when we had them weighed at Manchester and Dalaman they were spot on Going to use them again In Sept. Everyone enjoy your hols.

The secret to bathroom scales is try the bags once. I weigh myself once and I'm happy. Try it again and I'm 2 stone heavier

I bought some of the digital luggage scales off ebay (delete if advertising not allowed), they were £14 inc P+P, I did have the fishing scales but I wanted to be dead accurate so as not to be ripped off at Dalaman.

I'm planning on weighing our cases before we put them on the scales at EMA and compairing our scales with theirs as a rough idea as to what it might be at Dalaman.

Beau, we will not delete your post as ICR do not sell scales I bought some at Aldi for £3-99 and will testing them out in September as we are taking our grandchildren plus the kitchen sink

Thanks for the tip been to aldi`s got my scales .Wont be caught this year last year paid £24 excess on the way out !!! .Be packing them for the return as we all know dont want to get to dalaman and find i had a few kilo`s spare where i could have brought back some extra bargins / turkish delight .
