Also try taking betacarotene (holland & barrett) for a few weeks before you travel and while you are there. Helps prevent it.

If you use aftersun when you have prickly heat it only makes it worse.

Totally avoid. the bad areas and apply the aftersun on the ok bits of skin - all you're doing is irritating the skin further putting it on the affected bits.

Cover up the bad areas from the sun and take antihistamines.

i used to suffer from it really bad when i was younger,
but went to the docs and the give me anti histamines (neoclarityn)
and found it helped with hay fever aswell.
i tend to take them 2 weeks before i go and havnt had a problem
as of yet.

I suffer from the water filled blister type and so now go to my GP a couple of weeks before I go away for horse strength anti histamines which I start to take a week before I go

Simple do a fantastic sun cream range which doesn't block pores and has some sort of anti allergy stuff in it - better than the Piz Buin in my experience. I've only ever seen it on sale in Boots - best still though it's usually on buy one get one free and a little bit goes much further than any suncream I've used

I wouldn't risk having an injection over in Icmeler in case it made my sun allergy worse, tempting though it is

Refering to the "aftersun makes it worse" comment,
I disagree with that,I found that using the banana boat aloe vera (The green gel) does wonders,and certainly does help
I have not had prickly heata for years now,i always keep out of the sun when possible during peak times

i also use aloe vera suncream , you can get it from holland and barrets or off the internet, i also use the aftersun ,

the piz buin allergy cream didnt work for me, neither did the anti histamines,

i will look into the beta caretene tablets tho

thanks for the reminder Richard - I'd forgotten about Aloe Vera, never tried the suncream though so must get some and give it a go

also, there's a report in the Sun today about the actual sun factors as opposed to what it says on the bottle - a Which? report I think and it makes scary reading

I was in Icmeler in 2006 and got really bad prickly heat all over my left arm and the left side of my stomach and chest. The following year I took piriton every day for 2 weeks and i hit the sun beds as well. Piz Buin Oil Free was also used. I still got prickly heat but no where near as bad. It was again on the left of my body but at the top of my arm, armpit and chest. This year i have been to the doctors and i mentioned it to her. She gave me a perscription for TELFAST 120mg FILM COATED TABLETS (fexofenadine). she told me they act as an antihistamine but also for skin problems as dermatologists use them. She also told me to get camomile to put on the prickly heat if it does flare up but not to use the lotion as this will only dry up the skin and make it worse. I think you must be able to get a gel or something with camomile in it.

I do believe for me that antihistamines & Piz Buin work. I am back in Icmeler on 11th July and i have started the course of Telfast tablets and will continue with them until the end of my holidays and fingers crossed they will prevent the prickly heat from getting me.

I will let you know if it is a complete success when i get back

its the 1st time i have used piz buin in years so as it was on special offer i thought i would get some, but i was covered in prickly heat, i think the next time i should get the allergy one as on other forums i have read that piz buin causes it

It was the Piz Buin oil free I got last year and it was a lot better than the cheap Lotion I used the year before. But i might do as you're doing Sue and get the allergy one

i use the piz buin allergy one and it is brilliant i wouldn't leave home without mine. I had a sun allergy in my late teens and the dr gave me the usual piriton and so on, i then spotted the piz buin and got some of that never looked back.


I didn't even get anything the last 2 years that i have been in Egypt when i have been sunbathing in 55 degree sun.

I dont really suffer from prickly heat but there's always a first time.

I've got some telfast that was prescribed for me by the doctor for a skin allergy earlier on this year.

I'll pop it in my suitcase just in case.

Hi, I too suffer from prickerley heat, I went to the doctors and asked about the steriod injection- was point blank refused, it thins your bones. I got a perscription for strong ani hystamine tablets and will start taking them soon. My prickerley heat, are large blisters which burst, looks awfull.

We used to suffer from this but having"googled" it we now scrub with a loofah when we have a shower in the evenings. This clears the pores of all the suntan lotions and the problem doesn't arise.
Wouldn't fancy Steroids or anti-histamines

Mine is more of an allergy, as i only get it if i dont use the sun allergy lotion. Mind you it is good for the tanning process if you keep you skin exfoliated.

I would also recommend the Piz Buin allergy sun lotion. Daughter and I usually get really bad prickly heat, and although we did get a wee bit this year, it wasn't anywhere near as bad as usual. Also took anti histamines before we left and throughout the holiday and they did seem to help as well.
