How much per day?

Postby adewolves » 17 Jun 2008 12:15

First time in Icmeler and Turkey. Just wondering how much do you usualy budget for per day on spends? We are a family of four, my wife 2 daughters aged 10 and 12 and myself. We are self catering, going in August. I like a drink, well probably to much, missus is the same but won't really drink booze in the daytime. Kids like shopping, but they do have about 150 quid each so far (eldest will prob drag me to the market first day and blow it all) so basically what amount would you recomend?
I'm talking about money whilst there, visas, sun cream, money for the airport etc is all accounted for. I have a figure just wondered if I was close or off the mark. Please advise and thanks for such a great informative forum. :)

By the way I bought my suncream from wilkinsons, 3.99 a bottle 200ml, factor 50. A bargain in hard times.

Cheers for the replies. I was looking at around 120-130 a day, that is sorted just wondered if I'd need more. :? Just that I want this holiday so perfect. I didn't go away last year, and the year before we went to spain, first week was great, brilliant weather (not a touch on icmeler the way its looking) 2nd week it hammered down and my youngest got chicken pox. We got back home and then I (40 years old then caught em) then my eldest caught em. So I just want this perfect.

last year £100 a day was easily enough for us and we were a falimily of 4, kids ages 11 and 14, with some left over, we went in jul/aug, so your £120 a day should be plenty

I posted this little piece last year for those people who are like me and like to Budget

On a lighter note adewolves we work on a ratio of spends of 4 to 1 that means I allow £40 a day for beer and £10 a day for food.

This is achieved by not getting up till after midday that way I avoid having to buy and eat breakfast.
We take a large stock of cup a soups and oxo cubes with us from England so only have to buy the beautifull huge soft bread cobs, these cost about 25p each.
Another tip is drink your beer in the bars that have complimentary nuts crisps and other tasty tit bits on the table(you can send the kids to forage of the other tables).
Its surprising how full you can get by "Eating Out" this way.

For that extra special meal out go to the Champion bar and have a choice of either a hamburger or cheeseburger all served with fries and this will cost you 5YTL each x4 = 20YTL total £8.

So you see by being a little frugal your money can go a long way.

You may be thinking "but I like a bit of supper when I have finished drinking"
What I do after I have been drinking all night in a bar is just mention casually to the waiter that I will be going now as I want to call into the soup kitchen for my supper.
9 Times out of ten they will say "no dont go yet our cook will give you a sandwich on the house"
At that I promptly order more beer and everyone is satisfied.
Some may say "I could never do that"
But how many of you have had the complimentary coffee or ice cream and even liquore?
its just the same thing you see.

The most important thing is the beer money and never ever fritter that away on food.

i dont think im flash but my wife and i spent 23 hundred quid last year liz got some handbags i didnt even get a pair of socks
we eat out every night and are not loonies on the drink but still seem to get though the dosh
people who drink efes as oposed to branded vodka will always spend less i find that it seems your spending loads at the start of your stay then things settle down a bit
its always better to have a bit extra just incase but never bring any home what do i do wrong

Think last year us 2 spent between £100-£1200 for our 2 weeks, we ate out twice a day,had a couple of trips, drank local vodka and Efes and brought home a few pressies.

I would say that a large chunk of our money went on soft drinks/water during the day,we were there in August & it was boiling so we were drinking loads.

This year will be better as we have an apartment so will buy big bottles of juice and keep them in the fridge.

I have just come back, just me and my Husband, and we spent £100 a day, but that was buying everything out, I didnt even make a coffee in the apartment.

By taking your own coffee and tea bags and what has already been recommended about buying the bread, which is delicious, you could easily do breakfast and lunch in your apartment, saving heaps to be spent on the night-time.

I suppose it depends whether you are self catering or not as to how much you can make yourselves. You could buy your own pops etc to keep in the fridge for daytime use when you are around the pool.

Y dont you take some light nibbly stuff for your kids??

Im going to icmeler for the first time this in July and im taking a 13 year old teenage boy and a 10 year old girl. My son doesnt stop eating lol :)

Ive decided im taking some lightweight food thats not perishable for them for the first couple of days. I tend to do this every year when we go self catering as it does save u a lot of money especially when your sitting round the pool by the apts and cant be bothered gettin ready to go somewere to have somethin to eat.

hope this is helpful

happy holidays

EDIT: Can you please refrain from using text style language ie, U, year, Y

When we were in Altinkum last year we frequented a bar think it was called Oscars one night we were talking about going to get a snack the waiter over heared us and asked if we would like a sandwich no charge and he was forever bringing nibbles over to us the best was the walk home was about 15 mins so we always had to get taxi's but his boss drove us home and one night he said his boss had been drinking so ordered us a taxi on the house (no charge) beat that.

Tip
One of the first things we do is to freeze bottles of water and juice,so as when we go out during the day we have got a cold drink to last us,small bottles when walking around the town and litre bottles if we are going on a trip this way you are sure of always having an ice cold drink, sometimes you can even find some shops that sell frozen bottles of water.

Between 80 & 100 a day for us a family of 3 self catering, and to be honest that is more than enough, just remember even though you are on holiday have a budget and stick by it, you could get by on less than that!

you should do comfortably on that adewolves. we spent around that last year and did boat trips every day - like you, we wanted to have the BEST time and we did

we also make a deal with ourselves that if we do a boat trip, then that night we eat at a Pide/kebab place to offset what we spent during the day. then we just go for drinks

also at the start of the hols, we go and have a nosey at what gold we fancy and aim to keep that amount back (at least) . great incentive for the kids to be able to go home with a nice piece of jewellry - and me too

hope the hol is as perfect as you plan it to be
