Celine you are assuming that your belongings have been stolen in Turkey. I would think that it is more likely being done here in the UK

Maybe its time to go back to the old type locks on the suitcases, like the ones on a briefcase!

Could always get your cases cling wrapped at
Dalaman for 4€ - makes sense now why loads of people were getting it done, I thought it was just to keep the cases clean
16 Jun 2008 20:07
Can you really get that done? i have never seen that lol, but i would get it done to keep the case clean aswel, i have to buy a new case everytime i go away!

so if we get them cling wrapped and it's been broken into by the time we get them back and stuff's missing, what can we do?
16 Jun 2008 20:16
sorry, just read that last post back and I didn't mean it to come across as sarcastic
I really am interested in what redress there is if they still get broken into
I've had the odd item of underwear go missing and always put it down to me leaving it behind - but they're always nice items and new too, and I go through the apart with a fine tooth comb before we leave. also, we always go back to the same small place and I KNOW if we left anything behind, they'd email us straight away!
seems the mystery of the missing [not so smalls] is solved

Never put anything of value in our cases and only put crappy locks on just to keep it shut but I also put a cable tie on each just to see if they have been openned and up to now they havn't touch wood.

great tip re cable ties Geovil - will definitely do that this year!

If you think your case has been tampered with broken into or damaged make a report at the airport and get an incident No,it should be no different than reporting something to the police the only difference is you won't know if anything is missing until you get home or to the resort.

if they can cut off a lock a cable tie but be easy to do as well but might give that a go when i go away in September

Very scary that they can just goi and do/ take what ever they want.
Will one of these help
http://www.twenga.co.uk/offer/046912930.html or will it just make them more determined to get in?
Cheers

They would just not accept your luggage if you had this Twenga around it as it would be considered a hazard to baggage handlers and would snag on anything and everything.
The cable ties are not to stop anyone getting into your cases they are just to check if anyone has been nosing if they want to get into your case they will.

if we suspect that someone has been in our case, what can we do? and what rights do we have?
18 Jun 2008 18:09
my hubbie said he was gonna shrink wrap our cases before we go like they do in some airports abroad,do not know if this will attract more attention
We are getting to the stage of needing a new case, can you buy them cheap enough in Icmeler?
18 Jun 2008 18:47
Will they wrap your case at Dalaman. I have never seen it

You will be able to buy cases no problem in Icmeler.
We got great lightweight ones over there last year.
Paid a foturne for ones in Debenhams before we went, but they weighed just under 6 kilos which has a big impact on your weight allowance so bought the lightweight ones and left the other ones with waiters at
hotel we stayed in.

I didn't notice it last year but there's a dispenser thing there and a guy wraps your cases up on the way towards the check in desks just after you come through the scanners on the way in.
It said 4€ on the machine - be worth it to protect the cases.
You can get cases in
Icmeler - there's loads of places do them but one place that sticks out is a shop oposite the bank on the Azra Jewellers side of the road - HTH.

Saw the shrink wrap machine at
Dalaman Airport last year only notice on it said 15 lira and every one was wondering what it was for.
If your case is damaged or you think someone as been rooting thru it you should report it to the airline you are flying with, your luggage is insured with the airline but you should read the small print as certain things should not be in hold baggage.

Ok then, so who's been knicking fanny's knickers?
18 Jun 2008 20:56
we bought 2 new cases a few weeks ago in Icmeler, across the road from the ATM machines are down a few steps there is a nice little shop there it is called Ticaret Turizm Ltd , they were 50 lira each, ( a place down the canal would not budge any lower than 85 lira) so i reckon i got a bargain, expandable loads of compartments, combination locks on , when we arrived home i priced them up here and they were charging about £90 each.
must say there were not as many suitcases for sale as there was last year
