Onur Air 2008 Flights

Postby lovelyturkey » 06 Jun 2008 13:42

I would like anyone's points of view who has flown with Onur Air this year, I have been following a thread on HT and to say the least some people are less than impressed over recent years. I am due to fly with them in July after booking the mega cheap flights last year, but am now wondering if I did the right thing, I am a very nervous flyer and the reviews have done nothing to calm my fears.

Thanks.

I've flown with Onur air 4 times, and have never had a problem, no entertainment or meals, which doesn't bother me, and very pleasant staff and flights.

we flew with Onur air 16th May 2008, 1 hour delay on the tarmac but not there fault it was the TC flight before which held us up so we missed our slot.

We had extra leg room both ways very comfortable. Attendants very good. No entertainment but we were not bothered. Drinks and snacks on the plane quite reasonable

I thought they were very good flights and have booked to go with them twice next year

Sue I must have been on the same flight as you 16th May from manchester, I'd forgotten about the hour delay, but as you said it wasn't their fault. The staff were great weren't they, I will definately carry on using them too.

Also used Onur for first time last month 10th May from Glasgow and were little worried, but didn't need to be. Had ½hr delay outbound due to strike at Amsterdam airport (plane arrived in Glasgow late), but once there we were on in no time and away we went. Return flight 2 weeks later was on time and fine, just some turbulence but that can't be helped would definately use again, (well we are next May).

Also re no inflight entertainment, do what I did (if you have one) take portable dvd player and it will keep you amused we managed to watch series 1 of Gavin and Stacey and many a person was having a nosey as they queued for the toilet
Have a great holiday!

Hi, Sue, no we came back 25th May, plane was half empty, and was a night flight so most of us got a row to ourselves which made for a nice comfy sleep, and no interruptions with meal trollys made it even better :D
Here's to the next one hey!

I've flown with Onur 5 or 6 times and they've been very good - planes are certainly far more comforatble and roomier than Thomas Cook who we used last month (glad I've not got long legs!!!).

Hi mandy1919, try Aegean flights. They do have a website. Also I believe ICR are now doing flights. Have a look at the sticky at the top of the forum page.

Hi Mandy
ICR take the hassle out of it for you, they offer Onur flights at the same price you seen online on the Aegean site - and as they've gone up in price quite a bit over the past few days, at least ICR will be able to recommend others which may well be cheaper with other airlines

Good post, well replied to and Fanny thank you for explaining about our company in detail.

We have always sold flights at a very cheap price and we now have an online system where you can book direct, but the company we use online will release their OWN 2009 flights in July this year.

Any other companies then give us a call on 0151 289 3939 and we will give you a quote

am dreading running the gauntlet of their "customer service" and wish I'd known I could've booked the same with you guys, then sat back and enjoyed my Efes in the run up to our hol safe in the knowledge that I was in ICR's hands

Flew with Onur first time this year and were delayed on both outward and inward flights - 2.5 hour delay going and 1.5hour delay coming home.

I had a broken chair back on the way out that kept dropping back, and on the way home we felt like we were all sat in bucket seats and nobody could see over the top of the chairs in front - I could feel the person behind everytime they put anything in or out of the back of my chair - there was nothing solid at the base of back of the chair just the sponge so had a bottle of water in my back for most of the journey home.

Reasonable priced sandwiches and drinks on board (compaired to Dalaman airport prices - 17TYL for 2 cups of coffee  ) that looked nice too - but took our own food and drink on with us but if you're stuck for time to make any they were 4€ for the chicken roll things and I think it was £2 for a can of coke.

If you ask for an exit seat for extra leg room there's LOADS of leg room with them - there was a guy on our flight home who had to duck down to walk up the plane he was so tall must have been well over 6'5" and he was spread out across the exit with room to spare.

There were 3 toilets at the back of the plane and not 100% sure if there were 2 or 3 at the front but thought that was great as usually there's only 1 or 2 at each end.

Wasn't a wonderful plane at all (very basic) but for the price of the flights we can't grumble it got us there and back with no problems - can't ask for much more than that.

do you think you might have been on one of the older planes. the one we were on only had 1 loo at each end of the plane but the seats looked brand new. We had exit seats they were great, pays to get to the airport early and speak sweetly to the person behind the counter

We flew from East Midlands on the 1st and came back yesterday

Sue it was an old plane, well it certainly needed new seats but the loos were a bonus

Nothing complimentary for the delays - thought they could have given us a cup of tea/coffee if nothing else ?

Avoid Onur air

Postby hewiboy » 16 Jun 2008 15:55

Just got back from Icmeler on 14th June. Supposed to arrive back 13th June.
I fly a lot with work and have used countless airlines, but I have to admit, Onur air are the biggest bunch of cowboys I have ever come across. Let me explain.

On the way out, plane was on time, but with everyone boarded, made us wait a further 45 minutes whilst refuelling. Not a problem.....I'm fairly patient, but I know this is not usual protocol.

Leg room
I must be travelling on a different plane, cos those who said leg room was sufficient must be tiny. I'm 6 foot and was in agony the whole 4 and a bit hours due to the cramped seating. They have squeezed every last bit of space out of the A321 plane they use.
Anyway, I tell myself its a budget airline, so what do I expect for the money.

Return flight
Our return flight was scheduled for 16.55. Got to the airport for check in at 14.30 and were told plane was delayed by an hour and 5 minutes. Again, not a problem. Planes get delayed at airports.
After going through security again and sitting in the cramped Gate 28, it became apparent that there was a problem with the plane loo's. Despite repeated requestes to the airport staff and flight crew for some information we were told very little, other than there was a problem with the toilets. I sat and watched the maintenance technicians remove several bags of 'waste' and then stand around for countless hours scratching there heads as to what to do next. In the following 8 hours, we were given a sandwich and a drink, herded out of the gate back into the terminal (to diffuse the anger welling up me thinks) and then offered a either a tea or coffee after 7 hours. The whole thing was comical.
What was sad to see though, was a number of people who were quite clearly distressed. One gentleman who's medication was packed away and was very concerned about the effect the delay may have. Another gentleman who was wheelchair bound and had to resort to lying on the floor in agony. Thats not nice to see and they weren't offered any assistance at all.
I know faults happen with planes. Its not the first time I've been delayed. However, where this company differ from others is that they have the worst customer service and face to face interaction going. There is no excuse at not giving people a sensible answer or simply being honest. The 'speaky no english' only incited peoples blazing anger even further. This was further exhibited when we finally got on the plane. Despite waiting over 8 hours, we were only offered a drink and they had the cheek to ask us to pay for them. The rest of the time, the flight crew all hid. The miserable nowts. What do these people get paid for?

Before people respond saying, what do you expect for a buget airline, let me say one thing.
This airline has a shockingly bad reputation. Please read previous threads and web sites for all the details. The plane security is a big issue. However, Onur air would do well to look at Easyjet. When things go wrong, they deal with it in a polite, honest manner and this is simply all people wanted. Instead we were treated like second class citizens and were left to make our own conclusions after watching the ground staff run around like idiots through the glass.

Anyway, long winded answer, but wanted to tell you how I found it. The flight home went ok in the end.
I know others who haven't had any problems. However, I won't be travelling with them again.
(BTW, all the ************ flights that we seen come in during our delay, all left on time.......my booking will be with these next time).

Had a cracking holiday by the way :D
